////There's a storm brewing.
Around this time last year, I wrote out a cheat sheet for where Volume X was headed. The good news is that it's still headed in that direction. The even better news is that now that I've had the chance to make a few revelations, I can expand on the different facets of the story a bit more.
This time, I'll break it down into elements.
Energy
You've already been introduced to Ira Reier. But now, he has accomplished what American technology firms such as Vital Energy (Helena Rahal), the Kilvayne Corporation (Lucius Kilvayne, Maria Sola-Reyes) and Ark Industries (Christian Moynahan) have been attempting for years: free, renewable energy. Reier's processes are protected as trade secrets; no one, not even his personal assistant, knows exactly how he does it. The first energy facility, located in the Great Basin region of Utah, is actually open to tours, excepting a few areas that are closed off. Reier himself is a fairly open personage, but while winning the energy race, lost the personality vote to the younger, more attractive, and better known Christian Moynahan, whose PR department has taken on a personal war against Reier as Reier Technologies expands its operations to provide free energy to more of the country, at the cost of energy firms nationwide, both large and small.
If you have any characters who have energy-based abilities and you would like them to be part of this plot, send a PM to this account (moynahan).
Intelligence
You don't create miracles and not expect to come under fire for it; and so there are a few parties all investigating Reier and his company. One initiative is being led by a mysterious government agent known as "Keyes," or by other names besides. So far, Keyes has managed to earn the assistance of Ark Industries, and is also trying to win the help of Vital Energy through Helena Rahal. In negotiating with Ark, however, Keyes learned that Christian Moynahan has already infiltrated Reier Technologies - an action that would be highly illegal if the company involved did not happen to technically be owned by the sitting President. Where exactly Moynahan placed his agents, and who they are, has yet to be revealed.
Yet even the highest connections can't always protect you. In addition to their usual work, the Company has taken on the formerly closed missing-persons case of Sydney Lai, an ergokinetic, at the request of the Akiyama family; and the Elite, a secret "special operations" branch of the Company, have taken up the case of an FBI agent named Mathias, last known to be looking into the Moynahans.
Any characters that would fit the above arcs are welcome! Naturally, if you play a Company or Elite agent, you'll be kinda expected to participate.
Time
The last time the world's precognitives lost their abilities, they all hoped it would be the last. Unfortunately, it has happened again, but for a different reason. It's difficult to see in visions - most precogs have "shorted out" or just aren't able to access or control their visions anymore - but Andrew Reynolds, a Special who can walk through time, can see the answer more clearly, and is now holding a terrible secret:
The future is disappearing.
Why and how, he has no idea. Who to tell, he doesn't know. All he knows is that the end of the world is drawing nearer and he is the only person who knows it. And with time literally running out, he is definitely in need of assistance.
This arc is tricky, but if you'd like to be involved, let me know!
The most important thing to know about the above storylines is this: They are all connected. None of it precludes subplots, though, whether run by staff or created by you, the members. There are a few storylines going on - one within Ark, one involving Lilith, and of course one involving the massive Rahal family, for starters. And you don't have to ask Staff if you want to start a personal arc for your character, unless you want something major to happen in it (like blowing-up-a-city major); just keep the above things in mind - the public at large would be very aware of the energy race, and time-based Specials would be especially affected by the disappearing-visions problem. (At the moment, Andrew is the only character on the site who can exist outside of time, so he would be the only one fully aware of the problem, for now.)
So go forth and have adventures. Write together; get involved in these plots. Make some of your own if you prefer. We're a community, after all; we don't write these stories just for ourselves. Those would be called "novels."
