Full Name: Vincent Couteau
Age: 53
Civilian or Special: Special
Brief Power Description: Precognition
Precognition: Precognition is the ability to foresee future events, which is exactly what Vincent can do. For lack of a better term, Vincent is psychic and possesses the ability to see things in the future before they happen. He does not need to be in physical contact with an individual in order to access his ability, and there does not appear to be a distance limitation on it.
Limits: Just because he can see the future doesn’t mean that he can change it. He can foresee someone walking out in front of a bus and can warn them not to cross the street all he wants; precognition does not involve persuasion, and an individual’s future can always change depending on the decisions they make.
He cannot predict “general” events (like a terrorist attack, for example). He can only predict events which will occur in the life of an individual or a small group of individuals.
The ability tends to work better around people with whom he is acquainted for reasons he doesn’t know. He is able to see the future much more clearly when it comes to people he knows rather than a stranger he passes on the street. If a passer-by were to ask him what he saw in their future, he would get a brief, muffled flash of events which he probably wouldn’t be able to make heads or tails of until he got to know the person better and was thus able to see things with more clarity.
He cannot predict events occurring which are luck-based or probability-based such as winning lottery numbers and whatnot.
Vincent is unable to see anything more than a year in the future.
Brief Description of Character: Vincent has a very calculating mind; something necessary for being a haemotologist. He questions everything, and while not necessarily skeptical, he believes that most things in life have a basis in fact. The fact that he has a calculating mind does not preclude him from being scatterbrained at times. After years of seeing flashes of other people’s futures before his eyes, it’s a miracle that he hasn’t gone completely insane.
He is the kind of man who is incredibly book-smart, but would forget to tie his own shoes if he didn’t have a note to do so attached to his forehead. Vincent jokes around a lot about how he’s been having “senior moments” ever since he entered medical school, which is why he usually keeps lists of everything, so his ideas and “to-do’s” have a concrete place to stay.
Appearance-wise, he has a head of gray hair which he usually keeps trimmed short and professional. Because he does spend quite a bit of time working in a hospital, it’s become habit for him to wear scrubs pretty much everywhere. Doctors never get a day off.
He looks like he is in good physical condition for a man of his age, probably because he spends most of his days running around a hospital going from floor to floor to do patient assessments and take blood samples.
Brief Description of History: Vincent Couteau was born on 30 January some 61 years ago in Marseilles, France. His family was very well off; the Swiss bank his father worked for at the time kept their family rather nicely-situated. In his early years, no one would have been able to predict that he would have become a doctor because he was a poor student in school. But somewhere along the line, Vincent got his head screwed on straight, buckled down, and got his act together.
He applied for medical school at New York University when he was 23 and was accepted. After graduating and passing his medical boards, he began his career as a resident at a hospital in New Rochelle. Vincent soon grew tired of the life in New York and decided to pack up and move to Louisiana (hey, he heard it was a lot of fun down there). He began to work for Cornerstone Hospital in Bossier City where he met a woman who would later become his wife.
As far as Vincent knows, he’s had his ability since birth. He was never sure what to call it until he read the book Activating Evolution by Dr. Chandra Suresh. From a very early age, he was always able to predict things that would happen to people, though no one really took him that seriously until his predictions started coming true.
Currently lives in: Bossier City, LA
