Micah Walker
Manhattan, NY
April 9th, 2017Things had been looking up for Micah as of late. Since graduating NYU and getting his diploma in photography, he was finally able to do something with his life, besides just running around trying to save people whenever there seemed to be an issue nearby. it's not like he could help that, though. He just felt the need to help people. Ever since leaving The Watchers, he felt a little empty. Of course there was college to deal with in the meantime. But he still never felt fulfilled in his daily life.
He needed more. But what? He wasn't sure. Micah had absolutely no idea what he could do to make a difference now. It had been a long journey. From the moment he manifested his powers at the age of sixteen to now, nothing was ever simple. He tried his best to be the hero everyone could be proud of. But here he was now, trying once again to be normal.
What even is 'normal' anyways?
After he graduated from college, he landed an internship at The New Yorker magazine. He applied for several internships, had a few in college, but this one felt right. After many months, he eventually got himself an actual job. One of their photographers had retired and Micah was mentored by him for the past few months before officially getting his job. Finally he was getting paid to do a real job that he loved. Not that he didn't love working at New York Aquarium. But he could only do that for so long.
The truth of the matter was, he needed a steadier income and was getting paid far more to be a photographer now than he was ever going to make cleaning fish tanks and bathing Sealions. Although he loved that job a lot, it just wasn't plausible now. He needed more. Especially with his grandmother getting sick.
His grandmother was all he had after his grandfather passed away years ago. She was the only family he actually had around. His mother was living in Vegas with her husband and new baby. His father was still on the run, doing god knows what. And same for his deliquescent brother. His grandmother was all he had now and he needed to take care of her. That's why after he graduated, he moved back into his old childhood home in Staten Island. He just couldn't bare the thought of putting her in some home. It's not like she really needed all that, anyways. She was still kicking. She just needed to be more careful about not hurting herself, is all.
Now that he was done with work for the day, he left the New Yorker HQ and was heading home to Staten Island. He was going to have quite the adventure getting home today. Luckily he wouldn't usually need to come all the way into the office for work. They were pretty good about letting him work from home and submit his work. After all, they were just photos. But occasionally, he did have to come in.
Micah looked around the busy streets of New York, spotting a cab about to pass by and waving his hand far above his head in hopes the cab would pull over and get him to the station.
