Personality-
Richard has no difficulty trusting most people that he meets in his life, and he is always open to making new friends. He believes that the connections that one has with other people is what makes him strong, so even if they are rather minuscule in nature he will cherish each and every one of them. Sadly, the value he puts into those relationships comes with a price, and that is the fact that he will be completely honest with someone. In fact, one could call him one of the most blunt people that has ever existed, so it is rather easy to determine whether or not it is wise to ask his opinion on something if presented with such an opportunity.
Boisterous is a word that accurately describes Richard. At least, his mother has stated it on more than one occasion. He tends to fill both sides of any conversation, and while it can be irritating under normal circumstances it is ideal for his day job. As per most older siblings, there is this over-protectiveness that emanates from him towards his family, friends and anyone sitting in the backseat of his vehicle. Regardless of how he feels about them, there is no line that he wouldn't cross in order to keep them safe, and that does include stopping them from putting themselves in the line of fire.
While safety is his main concern toward others, his own personal choices can be deemed rather reckless. Whether it is someone in peril, a larger opponent or a dangerous activity, Richard will rush right at it without a second thought until after it is over, which is when he tells himself that perhaps it wasn't his brightest idea. Although, he has never been called a scholar, and it was only through persistence that he ever made it through high school and some other life events.
Abilities/Powers/Skills-
Omnilingualism
Richard has the ability to comprehend any language that is spoken or written without having to know the proper pronunciation of any of the language's words or the syntax of said language. This is accomplished by his brain analyzing the words that he hears or reads on a subconscious level to find a pattern in the way the language works, and from there his mind builds upon that until he fully understands the language. This process usually occurs in a matter of seconds, and once it is complete he is able to speak and write in said language in a flawless manner.
Aside from normal forms of communication, he can utilize his ability to decipher messages that are written in a code that reads as gibberish, which presumably happens by his brain finding a pattern within the letter placement and rapidly running through the most common letter or word that is used in a sentence.
Slightly Enhanced Memory
As far as languages are concerned, Richard is able to store all the information regarding them in his head without fear of ever losing it, and he is able to recall it should he ever have need.
Fighting skills
While he is no martial arts master, Richard has been training as a boxer since he was about fourteen years of age, so he can hold his own against anyone trying to jump him on the street. He specializes in working the ribs with some rapid fire jabbing. In order to improve his fighting style, he has started taking kick boxing lessons in his spare time, but he is nowhere close to being an expert.
Limits-
Omnilingualism
Like most abilities, Richard's ability has a few requirements in order for the translation process to begin. Naturally, he has to be awake and able to clearly understand the language whether it be spoken or read, which means that he will learn nothing if his ability to comprehend things is somehow dampened by a telepath, stress or some drug.
At minimum, twenty words have to be spoken of any language, and the order of these words must form actual sentences. If the words are given to him in a random manner, then discerning the syntax of a language will be completely impossible. Also, any form of communication that includes a rather bizarre aspect to it such as clicks or hand motions will be untranslatable.
This power is a passive one that Richard is unable to turn off, and this aspect of it is perhaps its greatest weakness. If one were to expose him to different languages in rapid succession, it would overtax his mental faculties to the point that he would collapse from the strain.
While he never forgets any language that he learns, it does take some effort on his part to utilize it, and switching between any two languages is rather taxing on him. This includes reverting back to his native language.
Slightly Enhance Memory
This ability is solely limited to the knowledge surrounding the languages that he has deciphered, so Richard will have the same difficulty remembering the first time that he fell in love or got into a serious fight.
Fighting Skills
Like any fighter, there is always someone out there that is better than him, and with only boxing skills and soon to manifest ability Richard can be taken down by those with more training, weapons or abilities that are more useful offensively.
Appearance-
Richard is not what one would call imposing. While he stands at about six feet tall, his body is rather lanky, which makes sense given that he weighs close to one hundred and sixty pounds. His dirty, blonde hair is varies between short and medium in length, and it is always groomed so that it remains out of his face. Most of the time, his facial hair is kept to a minimum, but it does get rather scraggly whenever he gets lost in a project.
As far as clothing goes, he tends to go with comfort rather than formal attire. A simple, button-up shirt with an undershirt is all that he needs to go with his black jeans, and he tends to stick to darker colors. His footwear tends to alternate between running shoes and sturdy boots, but it mainly depends on what activity he is doing. A slate grey, jean jacket is always apart of the outfit that he is wearing.
When it comes to accessories, Richard tends to be a traditionalist at heart. He always wears a pair of sunglasses, a watch on his left wrist, his class ring with his birth stone in it on his right hand and a leather necklace with an arrowhead hanging from it.

History-
On a rainy day, Jebediah and Allison Carter were just stopping to get some gas, but their day was turned upside down when she went into labor. After getting an ambulance and rushing to the hospital, the couple welcomed their son, Richard, into the world. Most of his childhood was rather uneventful aside from his little brother being born when he was seven, and then his parents began to stress to him the importance of setting a good example for his younger sibling. It wasn't an easy task for him as it meant sitting still in class and doing his homework as soon as he got home, but given the requirements to be on one sports provided the best motivation for him to do well.
Around his fourteenth birthday, his parents dropped a bomb about them having to move to New York City for his father's new job. While his younger brother just saw it as an adventure, Richard felt like he was being ripped away from everything that was important in his life, but as much as he argued with them about it his efforts proved to be futile. A week prior to his freshman year, the Carter family was settling into their new home.
Being the new kid in school wasn't a pleasant experience, but Richard attempted to make the best of a horrible situation. A few of his endeavors in this area led to certain members of his class being offended, and for some reason they thought instigating regular bullying intervals throughout his day was the proper response. At first, Richard was able to ignore their efforts at getting a rise out of him, but eventually his breaking point was reached. After a short fight that he lost, he was sent home with various bruises on his body, and his father berated him for choosing violence as the solution to his problem. His temper flared on him, and Richard ran out of the house with the intention of never returning.
With no real knowledge of the city, it must have been fate that guided him to the front of a gym where a man was smoking a cigarette. After a lengthy lecture about the danger of anger, the man invited Richard inside, handed him a pair of gloves and instructed him to start punching the bag as if it was the one that had caused the anger. About fifty strikes later, he was exhausted but his head was cleared of the rage that he had been feeling, and then the man drove Richard back home.
An apology followed by a long talk later, it was decided that Richard would start boxing lessons at the gym with the man in order to provide an outlet for any anger that built up during the day. These lessons transformed into a passion that led to him signing up for a boxing match that he lost. Naturally, it was a disappointment for him, but it also encouraged him to continue with his training, and steadily Richard improved his technique over the years until he won his first fight at eighteen.
A week later, he made the decision to continue his pursuit of a boxing career, which was much to his parents disappointment. Of course, they understood the need to follow one's dream, so they gave him all the support that they could to get him started. Knowing that he would need a job to help keep him above financial ruin, Richard got hired on at a bike messenger service, which didn't pay that well at first.
After a few years of training and making connections, he started moving up in both areas of his life, but an injury he suffered while delivering a message had set back his boxing schedule several months. When he was recovered, Richard decided it was time to switch to a slightly more safer day job, and so he started driving a taxi.
Anything else?- Just in case it wasn't clear, Richard's power will manifest in the game at some point.
Sample RP-
As he exited the building, Richard noted that it was cooler than usual, but there was no way that he could afford to change his routine. Pulling his hood over his head, he started jogging down the street on his normal route while shadowboxing every once and awhile. There was no real destination to this trek, but there was a requirement on how long he had to run. It was a good thing that he had remember to set the alarm on his watch, which was actually going to go off at the halfway mark. "This should be easy," he muttered after five minutes.
"Help!"
"Or not." Changing direction, Richard ran in the direction of the person crying out for help. It didn't take him long to see the origin of the noise was a woman struggling with a man over her purse, and there was no contemplation on his part before charging forward and grabbing the man.
Pulling the two of them apart, he shoved the man backward and turned to check on the woman. "Go call the police," he stated before returning his attention. With her outside his field of view, there was no way to be certain if she was going for help or not, but that didn't matter as the would-be thief pulled a knife from his pocket and came at him.
At first, Richard just danced around the man, which just allowed his opponent to wear himself down. Once he believed that the man was exhausted enough, a sudden move forward brought the two of them within arm's reach of each other. The startled look on the thief's face was quickly replaced with one of pain as Richard delivered a series of jabs to the man's torso before connecting a blow to the side of the guy's head.
The man stumbled backward and dropped the knife on the ground, but he wasn't ready to completely give up. "Persistent, aren't you?" When the man started to move toward him, Richard knocked him to the ground with a side kick to the abdomen, which was about the time he heard the police sirens. "This just isn't your day."
