Personality and Appearance-
Personality:
Allyson is a good-spirited being though that isn't to say she is without fault.
Having been brought up around specials, with parents of ideological views on specials, Allyson has grown to be somewhat arrogant toward those without abilities. Though tolerant of them, Allyson often appears to speak with a condscending tone, oftentimes without meaning to. This has resulted in many people looking to her as a very supercilious being. However, she does not look down on them as inferior or vermin: Allyson is very friendly towards people, specials or not. If she did not know you had an ability, she would still treat you the same irrespective.
Leading on from this, Allyson is a very social animal and is often at bars meeting new people. She is a very outgoing individual and is usually the one to take the lead in conversations, and likes to be at the forefront of the subject. This, naturally, gives Allyson a somewhat self-centered vibe though her other actions are suggestive that she is more of a control freak.
Allyson is one to take control of a situation; she enjoys knowing everything about situations she may encounter and as such, she is very attentive and could be considered, au courant. She is very cautious when approaching new people, as her ability has shown her what people can be capable of.
Due to her work, Allyson is required to be extremely compassionate and considerate towards her patients. She is a very empathic being, having been studying the human mind for a fair few years. She can often tell when people are upset, angry, happy or similar and, as such, her attentiveness helps her to drink in peoples mannerisms and behaviors, allowing her to see when people are uncomfortable or lying, etc.
Having studied the human mind, Allyson understands the need for certain truths to be omitted for the sake of sparing somebodies feelings. Unfortunately, however, Allyson is not like this; she is very upfront and forward toward people and is not one to hold back if she disagrees with somebody, leading to the view that she is somewhat opinionated. This means she is somewhat honest though her work requires her to be secretive, meaning that though she would not lie about most things, she would ignore certain details should she deem is necessary (especially surrounding her work).
Her work and upbringing has caused Allyson to be somewhat dependable and reliable. It is not uncommon for Allyson to agree to take reigns of a situation when it is needed of her and, as such, she is fairly intuitive. She is also quite polite to people she does not know.
She has a very active lifestyle.
Appearance:
Allyson is five foot and seven inches tall and weighs approximately ten stone. She is a natural brunette though it is a common occurence for her to dye her hair raven-black. She has dark hazel coloured eyes and has a fair skin tone. She has an average build and a somewhat triangular face, matching her mothers.
Clothing wise, Allyson has a wide range of outfits suiting any purpose. When not at work, she opts for season appropriate attire and regularly shops for new outfits. She is always wearing her wedding ring.
Abilities/Powers/Skills-
Ability Reading:
To take the ability name in a literal manner, Allyson is able to read who has abilities and what they have.
When she first manifested, she was only able to sense that there was a special nearby. However as she grew older and stronger in her powers she was quickly able to pinpoint those with abilities and determine which ability they had as well as the full capabilities of their abilities.
Allyson has sorted her ability in to two categories in order to fully understand it:
Detection:
The first aspect of her ability allows her to detect when a special is nearby (approximately a ten meter radius around her). Simply being near an ability does not allow her to pinpoint the source of the ability, just determine whether there are specials around.
In order to precisely find a special using her ability, Allyson has to stand still and focus. As she concentrates her ability hones in on the source of the power, allowing her to precisely pinpoint the location of a special.
Comprehension:
Simply detecting an ability is one aspect of Ability Reading. The second, Allyson has taken to calling Comprehension. That is, provided Allyson keeps her eyes on a special, she gains knowledge on an ability; what it is and what it is capable of. She cannot determine how an ability works only what it is and what it does. Though oftentimes Allyson theorizes.
The longer she looks at a person, the more information she receives on their ability. As such, were she to stop looking at the person, Allyson stops learning about the ability.
How it works
Every living being gives of a small electromagnetic field and Allyson has theorized that specials give off a unique field. Though it is not too different to their normal counterparts, there are small variances in the field that allow abilities such as Negation -- and Reading -- to work.
As Allyson is walking around, her body constantly emits a radial signal around her body that 'pings' off of other people. Similar to how echolocation works, once this signal comes in to contact with someone with an ability, it returns to Allyson whereby her body (in which she refers to as a 'gut feeling') responds by alerting Allyson there is a special nearby. However, she is unable to locate a special unless she focuses due to the fact that she is constantly receiving messages from her ability. When she concentrates, she is able to hone in a specific energy signature and pin point its location. Though it does not take long to locate a special, she is only able to locate one special at a time and detecting other abilities does not work whilst she is focusing on one particular ability.
Understanding an ability builds off of this foundation; as she is looking at a special, her body constantly sends out and receives electrical signals -- much like a network -- and as she receives this electrical input, her body translates it in to something Allyson is able to comprehend. Her body attunes to the electromagnetic field of a special and begins to 'read' it. Whilst reading an ability, Allyson's sight becomes darkened and her pupils whiten. This is due to her body adapting to reading raw electronic signals instead of interpreting them. Allyson also describes a sound similar to white-noise overriding her hearing as well as a metallic taste in her mouth whilst reading abilities. This process can take anywhere from five seconds to three minutes depending on the complexity of an ability and how long Allyson keeps sight on the person. In this time, Allyson is vulnerable as her senses (sound, sight, etc) are dampened. As soon as she stops concentrating on a special and they are no longer in sight, she stops reading an ability. She is only able to read one ability at a time.
When her secondary ability manifested, Allyson has since been able to use Ability Reading to locate exactly where an ability manifests itself.
Ability Suppression:
Fundamentally, Allysons secondary ability allows her to suppress another specials power. Allyson is able to wilfully suppress an ability either temporarily or semi-permanently.
Since manifesting this ability on April Fourth, 2010 Allyson has experimented with the capabilities of this ability and has concluded that she is able to achieve varying degrees of suppression to suit her situation.
She has to consciously and wilfully decide to use this ability – it is not passive, unlike the sensing aspect of Ability Reading.
Allyson can only maintain focus on Ability Suppression (when temporarily suppressing abilities) for a maximum of three minutes at a time as it consumes a lot of energy.
Semi-Permanent Suppression:
This is arguably the hardest to achieve with her ability. It acts to prevent an ability from being used for an unspecified amount of time. Allyson is unable to take an ability from someone as she is not able to alter the DNA structure of a person though she is able to, as Allyson has taken to calling it, lock an ability in a semi-permanent stasis. That is, a user is unable to use their ability until certain conditions are met.
Though an ability can potentially be suppressed forever, it is not uncommon for somebody to re-manifest or have their ability come back to them through natural means. Allyson can only inhibit the use of an ability. If, for example, a similar situation were to arise to which an individual first manifested – the adrenaline would surge through their body causing the electrical impulses to reignite the DNA that causes an ability to work. A person who is able to augment, activate or bestow abilities could also reverse the effects of Ability Stasis.
The longest Allyson has been able to lock an ability for is just over six months.
In order for Allyson to lock somebody ability from being used, she needs direct skin contact with the person and has to concentrate on blocking the ability in order for her primary ability to locate exactly where an ability is manifesting. Once located, her body begins sending electrical impulses throughout the victims body telling it that the systems the body has in place that allow continual activation and use of an ability are to be bypassed and blocked off. It is then that the body blocks of the synapses and stops sending all necessary impulses for an ability, effectively rendering the ability unusable. This aspect of Allysons secondary ability is extremely exhausting and a lot of the time, she ends up with a migraine after using it.
She is unable to reactivate an ability she has semi-permanently disabled.
Singular Suppression:
Building on from almost permanently locking an ability, Allyson can temporarily suppress the abilities of a single person. It works in the same manner as Ability Reading and has similar limits to when she is reading an ability of somebody. She still gains comprehension of the ability she is suppressing whilst she is suppressing it.
Upon willing to suppress an individuals ability, Allyson emits a consistent pulse of electronic signals to her victims which interfere with her victims synapses. Specifically, the ones which interact with the adrenal gland (and other systems that allow use of an ability) causing an ability to work. It takes a few moments for her ability to fully suppress somebody – though they will feel their ability weakening whilst Allysons ability takes hold. Once her ability has taken hold, Allysons victims are unable to use their abilities.
Radial Suppression:
Similar to how Allyson is able to sense an ability, she is also able to suppress abilities of those within a seven meter radius. Instead of simply searching for certain energy signatures, Allyson emits a constant electrical impulse that disrupts the abilities of those in her vicinity by attacking the systems (such as the adrenal gland) the body uses to activate abilities. It works similarly to semi-permanent suppression, though an ability is reactivated once she loses focuses or wills for Ability Suppression to stop. She has to concentrate on suppressing abilities in order to do this though and she loses all Ability Reading capabilities whilst suppressing the abilities of those around her. Her senses still become deteriorated whilst using this aspect of her ability and she is unable to permanently suppress any ability if she is choosing to suppress those around her.

History-
It's a boy. Those were the three words Mr and Mrs Pendergrass had been hoping for since the pregnancy had started. Richard, their three year old son, was an only child and the Pendergrass family believed he needed a sibling. Specifically, they desired a brother for the boy. Charles Pendergrass had made it plain that Richard was to become a brother otherwise he would have grown up as troublesome and lonely. Naturally, this would have had dire consequences for the family's reputation.
So when the words “It's a girl” left the lips of the midwife, Charles' world came crashing down. An image flashed before his eyes and fragments of the future slipped in front of him. Everything that his family stood for, gone. The effort he had put in to securing the future of his wife and children had all but been a fools errand.
Rosalie looked up with tired eyes to her husband and saw the pain he was going through, “Please don't do this Charlie.” She said slowly.
He didn't respond. Instead, he simply stood up and left the room.
The Pendergrass family had a deeply engrained moral compass when it came to those with abilities. Having come from a bloodline of specials whom all had temporal abilities, Charles was able to catch snippets of possible futures. And though they were not always certain, Charles believed them to be truth. Rosalie, however, came from a long line of those with a particularly unique set of abilities. She was able to bestow abilities unto those without a power.
Allysons parents shared the belief that people with abilities were the next stage in evolution. They did not look down to civilians by any stretch though they did believe specials were to take over eventually. It was this belief that brought the Pendergrass family together to what Allyson would come to know.
Born in Ontario, Canada at the Pendergrass home in the early hours of February the fifth, nineteen eighty-three, Allyson Pendergrass was a fairly healthy child. Rosalie instantly adored her newborn child though Charles turned a cold shoulder. The vision he had seen showed the Pendergrass family as a mere shadow in a world run by specials. He regarded this as the downfall of his family name.
It was intended that Allyson attend the same private school as her brother though in 1987, when Allyson was aged four, Charles was called to Los Angeles, California for a work-related assignment. For the next three years, Allyson and Richard went to a privately funded school and in 1990, Charles came home with some news.
During an excursion, Charles had come across a woman named Khalidah Rahal. She had mentioned that she knew his grandparents and a conversation started regarding the Pendergrass family business. The months that followed were filled with dinner parties with the Rahals as the two families became close acquaintances.
Almost a year since they had met, Charles' had a second vision regarding his daughter. He saw specials surrounding his daughter though they were powerless. He saw his daughter as a woman standing in the center of a crowd of specials. They were grimacing and snarling like wolves ready to pounce. Though she stood there, smiling. She had somehow stripped everybody of their abilities. Charles took this as a literal incarnation of his daughter being the downfall of the evolutionary cycle. That she was to ruin the Pendergass family. And so, in an impulsive move, he went upstairs with his belt.
Allyson was not prepared for what was to happen. He pushed her against the wall and yelled at her. He wasn't going to allow everything he worked for be destroyed by a girl -- his girl. As the leather tightened around her neck, Allyson began to cough and flail. It only took thirty seconds before Charles realized what he was doing and he dropped the belt. Panting, Allyson looked to her father -- tears in her eyes -- and spoke, "It's okay daddy. You're still special."
Charles and Rosalie came close to divorce after the incident though Charles managed to persuade his wife to not divorce him. It would harm the children, he said. Allyson didn't receive any permanent damage from the attack.
In 1994, Rosalie was forced to bestow her son with an ability thinking he was to be the only member of the Pendergrass clan that didn't have a power. This was because Allyson could not sense an ability. Within minutes of Rosalie giving her son an ability, he vanished. He had flung himself forward in time to June Third, 2014. Allyson blamed herself for losing her brother.
Just over a month after Allyson's birthday, an incident happened that made it clear her ability had strengthened. She was playing in the kitchen when Allyson dropped a glass. In an attempt to clean it up, she cut herself quite badly. Running in to the function room, wherein her mother and father were entertaining the Rahal's, Allyson felt a great sense of power. She stared at Khalidah and determined she could heal. Allyson approached Khalidah and asked her to use her healing ability. Khalidah asked how she knew and Allyson simply responded; "My body told me."
This was a defining moment in the Pendergrass family as her father saw what his daughter was capable of. He began to rethink his actions the year prior and started to warm to his daughter. Though reserved about it, Allyson slowly started to spend time with her father and she honed her ability to the point that she was able to determine exact details about powers.
The remainder of her childhood went relatively smoothly, learning various languages and numerous skills, and when Allyson was twenty two (2005), she was able to pay her way in to the Berkeley wherein she attained a degree in Psychology. She furthered her studies and specialized in Psychotherapy.
Allyson received a job offer in 2007 for a small firm in New York. She accepted and moved.
During the events of April Fourth, 2010, Allysons' Secondary ability manifested itself. The moment the world gained powers, Allyson became overwhelmed. Her fathers vision came true. Allyson covered her ears and screamed and as she did, an invisible wave of energy surged around her and those with powers found themselves powerless. Allysons head went silent and she looked around, smiling. People were looking on to her and she looked at them. She was stopping their powers from working.
Following that, Allyson studied her ability and pushed it to its limits, furthering her own power.
Allyson met a man that day who helped calm her. He had the power of Empathic Reading and Empathic Manipulation. That was, he was able to read peoples emotions and manipulate them accordingly. The two began to talk and eventually, in the June 2012, Allyson got married to him believing him to be her true love. She opted to keep her family name, however.
During the later months of 2013, Allyson was approached by Felicia Soler. Felicia explained that Allyson's ability was special and she was going to play an important role in events to come. Consequently, Allyson was offered a job as Head Psychologist at a top secret firm Felicia only referred to as the Eternal Light.

Anything else?- Close friends tend to call her Aly (pronounced Al-lee) or Alice and everyone she knows thinks she is a therapist for a small firm. She is also fluent in a few languages, partly due to her education and partly due to hobby.
She believes she is deeply in love with her husband though that may not be the entire story...

The Oxford Dictionary defines knowledge as the sum of what is known. It is the agglomoration of facts and information applied with a practical or theoretical understanding of the subject in hand. In the same breath, it could be said then that if you were told an apple was a green fruit, you would still have no knowledge of what an apple was because of the simple matter that you did not understand why it was considered a fruit or why it was green. In order to know why an apple was a fruit, you would have to look to your understanding of fruits; fruits grew on trees, contained seeds and were typically edible. And even so, you would not be able to fully comprehend what an apple was unless you were to factor in all the facts you knew of trees and seeds. Knowledge is an endless collection of information weaved in an infinite web that gave us humans the comprehension required in order to serve and fulfill our most fundamental of instincts: survival.
Logic dictated then that as survival was the most basic of human instincts, it was undeniably the most important instinct and as knowledge was the key to survival, knowledge was everything.
History has shown us that it was within human capacity to seek knowledge where previously there was none. It was our purpose to collate every fact, however minor, to complete a comprehensive manifesto on everything that we could reach.
Before April the fourth, the majority of the human race was ignorant to any ability above those of normal capability. Invisibility, Regeneration and even Telepathy were matters which had typically been brushed off as being simply science fiction. We had taken a different approach to the possibility of being more than we currently were, that the cycle of evolution had not yet completed. We, as a race, had decided that we had to know why in order to gain the information we required. A telepath could read minds because they could become attuned to the electrical impulses of another persons brain, invisible was only possible because a person could refract light in order to trick a human eye in to not seeing what was right in front of them. We had drawn a conclusion based on little to no evidence. After April the fourth, one-hundred percent of the human population were exposed to all the information surrounding special abilities that could have ever been needed. That was when the world truly changed forever.
Allyson already had the information she required and so knew what was to happen. Knowledge always came with a price.
Allyson had been working on one of her patients. He did not understand his ability and so did not know how to control it. It was her job to ensure he learned how to control it.
"You are able to realign and re-imagine any matter, Michael. Do you understand?" She asked compassionately lowering herself to sit on the floor, legs curled. She was at eye level with the man whom had constrained himself to the corner of his room, covering his ears, "I am here to help you." She pulled two pens; a red and a blue; from her lab coat and offered them to him, "I have been told by my colleagues that you like to draw. Could you show me?"
The man slowly lowered his hands and moved his eyes to look at the psychologist though his head remained turned to the wall, "What's happening to me?" He asked with an apprehensive tone.
"You have an ability, Michael. A very special one." Allyson smiled. As she looked at him, her head began to collate all the information she needed. The human brain had a fascinating way of arranging information and facts in order to grant the necessary knowledge one would require on any subject. And it took but milliseconds before Allyson knew exactly what this man was capable of. There was so much wasted potential. She was to unlock that potential.
Michael reached around and took a clutch of the blue biro, "I don't have any paper."
Allyson pushed off the ground until she was standing, "You know, I'm not sure you need it."
Mrs. Pendergrass kept her gaze to Michael. He looked up at her and his eyes drank in her gentle smile, "I have to go now but could you draw me a picture for when I return please? I'd absoutely love to see how much of an artist you are."
The psychologist turned on her heels and dropped the red pen as she walked away -- Michael watched it fall. There was no clank as the pen hit the floor. Instead, there lay a sheet of paper.
