RACK AND RUIN
There’s a question going around all of our minds, on all of our lips, and with every passing day it seems to grow more and more, making more questions than there are answers.
What the hell is going on?
There are spontaneous events occurring all over the country. It’s as though the nation is going insane. There was the cholera outbreak, which lasted forever, it seemed, but in truth it was only about three weeks. But thousands of people died within those three weeks, and we still don’t know what caused it.
We know who stopped it, however - the Kilvayne Corporation, led by Lucius Kilvayne. I for one would not have expected a megacorporation to actually give its time and resources to the effort. Was it a publicity stunt? Probably. They’ve certainly seen a boost in the stock market and a tin of positive press coverage.
But with madness breaking out across the country, it looks like not everyone is happy with. Or maybe it’s not connected to all. Who knows? Whispers are that the Rogue Society has returned - or, at least, part of it, and they’re the ones causing the trouble. In DC, in California, in New York, just to name a few targets. As if we didn’t have enough to worry about.
Who’s going to be next, really?
In other new, the sort that no one really knows or cares about, the Johessman family - the one that runs Acacia Heights entertainment, which provides both, as you might guess, entertainment, but also owns most of America’s power grid - has taken over most of the Caribbean. Most of the takeovers were quiet and diplomatic, but now the Johessmans have amassed enough of a military that the country should probably be a little more concerned. But so far, the Johessmans have not shown any malevolent intentions, which is good, because Capitol Hill seems ti be focused on what they would consider a terrorist on their own soil.
Christian Moynahan - you know him as the CEO of Ark Industries - is on trial for a number of crimes, described mostly as “espionage” and “treason.” No one has mentioned exactly what he did to earn that trial, but even the prosecution has said that the crimes have nothing to with Ark. So it seems the man did something on his own, and the government was no a fan of it. But, for once, it’s good to see that Ark is not the one causing trouble.
That’s what out government has been obsessed with. The President has yet to release a statement on any of this, but some members of Congress have been very, very vocal. Emphatically so. But Mr. Moynahan is set to take the stand today and provide his own testimony. It’ll be interesting to see what he says.
Also, in a self-admitted attempt to support their leader - but again with the mention that they had nothing to do with the trial - some of Ark’s foremost scientists reported that they, led by the not-present Mr. Moynahan, had created a prototype that could be used in therapy, in place of anesthesia, and other things. Is this just a publicity stunt, or does this thing actually work? It’s kind of hard to believe, but then again, even when they were aligned with the the government, you have to admit that Ark came up with some impressive (albeit very harmful) stuff.
What do you think? What’s going go on with these odd events? Or about the Johessman empire? Or about Moynahan’s trial, or about their new technology?
