Lauren Quatrevaux
Full Name: Lauren Marshall Quatrevaux, Jr.
Age: 61
Civilian or Special: Civilian
Currently Located: New Orleans, Louisiana, USA
Affiliated with: Villain
Celebrity Claim: Irons, Jeremy
Relation to You: Father
Personality: You probably won't meet a man more charming than Lauren Quatrevaux. Laid-back and easygoing, Lauren exudes a quiet confidence meant to draw people in and disarm them. He always knows just what to say, and he knows how to have a good time... for better or worse. Still, as charming as he is, he can also be very enigmatic. The aura of an unknown quantity constantly surrounds him, such that you occasionally wonder whether you're looking at the man or a mask. The only time this effect fades is when he is with his wife, and even then, if they are in public, this shade of mystery may still shroud him.
His temper is not easy to trigger. However, once it is tripped, he may decide it is worth his time to end you, whether physically or psychologically. Depending on the situation, he may lose his cool, and blow up right then and there, but it's more likely he will hide his annoyance beneath his usual charming veneer and strike back at you later, when you least expect it, even perhaps over time. Lauren Quatrevaux always gets what he wants.
Appearance: A bass-baritone, Lauren has an enthralling speaking voice that is laced with a New Orleanian accent, a voice that sounds even better when he sings. He is a classically trained opera singer. He is tall and sports the build of a man who, in his younger days, kept his body well in shape, and still does what he can to be healthy, such as taking morning jogs and swimming when he can. At five foot nine, he is moderately tall. He is usually clean-shaven, and keeps his brown hair neatly cut and combed. Unless he is working at the marina or at sea, he dresses in suits or dress shirts and slacks; for more hands-on work, he wears old shirts and jeans.
Lauren does not have any superpowers. He does not have very many offensive or defensive skills, either. Once, he had been a very good shot, with such good aim that he could have thrown a rolling pin ten yards and met the target, but his current health has ruined that for him. He suffers from tremors in his hands and neck, which throw off his aim and make ordinary tasks such as eating extraordinarily difficult.
In place of physical combat, he relies on psychological warfare. He can read people extremely well, can learn their hopes and fears just by talking to them, and can play on that information skillfully, a tactician pulling the strings behind the scenes. Doing this usually brings Lauren great enjoyment. Like singing opera, it's something that he is excellent at and that comes naturally to him; like singing opera, it is a hobby, something he does in his spare time to keep himself sharp and amuse himself.
Lauren was born and raised on Grand Isle. His family, the Quatrevauxes, is descended from some of the first settlers in the New Orleans area. He attended school and lived in the same tiny community, but was not closed off from the rest of the world; even as a child, he traveled into New Orleans often, and was exposed to many cultures, and learned what it is like to live among a shitton of people.
A talented singer, Lauren began to sing at an early age, and entered the opera world alongside finishing middle and high school and going to college to study business. He began to date, and eventually married, his childhood acquaintance, Sharon Franklin, after the two starred opposite each other in an opera. Sharon moved in with the Quatrevauxes and began to help run the family's marina.
They had three children together - Wesley, Lauren II (Marshall), and Angela. Fully unbeknownst to Angela, those were not the only children Lauren sired. Even after their marriage, he engaged in affairs, as he continued to travel for both opera and for business. As perceptive as Sharon was, he was more sly and charismatic, enough to keep the truth even from her. He stopped cheating around the time Marshall began college; Marshall's troubles affected the whole family, and finally led to Lauren making a true commitment to his wife and children. The others were, and still are, unaware of this change in him. To his family, Lauren is no villain, no adulterer, just a hardworking, honest, and charming man.
No Quatrevaux in recent memory had suffered from any debilitating genetic diseases. It seemed Lauren was so lucky that he got to be the first. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in early 2011. His younger son is convinced that this is a misdiagnosis, but has been unable to convince any formal physicians of this. Whatever it is, the disease has begun to tear at Lauren's ability to live, rendering normally simple activities such as eating and writing difficult. He suffers from resting tremors in his hands and face, has trouble walking, has impaired posture, and has trouble swallowing on occasion. His wife and children have undertaken to care for him, which he both appreciates and finds maddening, a bruise on his pride.
His declining health has led Lauren to turn over control of the marina to his son, Wesley. He would have liked to give the marina to Marshall, who currently has a better grasp of reality than his brother. After hearing the suggestion in July 2011, Marshall declined the offer, which puzzled his father. He'd thought Marshall would have jumped at the chance. But perhaps the Jung Facility and Jessica Conelly play a larger part in his son's life than he had expected.
