Mei Song
Full Name: Mei Song
Age: 42
Civilian or Special: Special
Currently Located: Transient
Affiliated with: Hero
Celebrity Claim: Yeoh, Michelle
Relation to You: Stepmother
Appearance: Mei is a fairly small woman, standing about five foot five and weighing one hundred twenty pounds. She has an average-sized frame, with very subtle curves. Her hair is brownish-black, and she usually keeps it long, although sometimes movie roles require her to sport different hairstyles. Her eyes are brown and large, set in a long, rounded face. In public, she usually dresses stylishly, as she is a well-known actress, but in private, she prefers clothes that are comfortable, such as cotton t-shirts and loose-fitting pants.
Personality: Mei is very sweet and caring, and gets along with others easily. Despite her moderate successes in the film industry, she is modest, and dislikes being the center of attention for too long. She finds it easy to trust others, and is almost always pleasant, even with strangers. When she does become upset- which only occurs in very stressful situations- she becomes withdrawn, keeping her feelings and opinions to herself.
Abilities
Tactile Retrospection: Mei can psychically learn the past history of an object simply by touching it. Once she activates her ability and touches the object, she experiences brief flashes of where the object has been. Usually, she can see as far back as the object’s creation, though longer histories take far more energy and time. While knowing the history of an object is not quite as useful or effective as being able to see a person’s past, being able to see what has happened to an object, especially one of value to a person, can offer a glimpse into the pasts of people who are connected or related to an object.
Tactile Retrogression: Additionally, Mei can return an object to its condition in an earlier state. For example, she can restore an antique to its appearance when it was first created, or repair a broken object by returning it to its original working condition.
Skills
Mei is also somewhat familiar with a few combat styles- namely, kendo, karate, and tae kwon do. She learned these styles for movie roles, and does not actively study them aside from what she has to know for her acting.
Limits
Tactile Retrospection: Mei can only perform this ability on inanimate objects. This does not include organisms that were once living; for example, Mei cannot see the pasts of dead bodies. Also, she must touch the object in order for the ability to work; once she comes out of physical contact with it, the visions end. The length of the history that she can view is limited to only brief flashes of scenes, which may be unclear, and depends on how much energy Mei can spare, as the use of this power drains her energy fairly rapidly. Also, she can only view the pasts of objects, not their future.
Tactile Retrogression: As with her primary ability, Mei must be in physical contact with the object while she is retrogressing it, the ability can only be used on inanimate objects, and the ability uses up a great deal of her energy. She cannot simply change an object; she can only return it to a state it was once in.
Skills: Like Sparrow, Mei has only a basic knowledge of combat skills, just enough to give the impression that she is very good at them. She could use this knowledge in self-defense, but she is far from being an expert in it.
Mei was born and raised in Hong Kong as the only daughter of a wealthy entrepreneur and his wife. As a child, she displayed a love for performing for people, singing and dancing for guests whom her parents entertained at their lavish home. While she attended school, she also began modeling for children’s clothing lines, and then got into acting.
When she was twenty, Mei moved to America to pursue an acting career there. She was quickly picked up for a handful of roles that required Asian women. The roles gave her a bit of exposure in the American market, and she became moderately well-known. The bit of recognition was enough for her, as she was acting for the love of it, not for the money or fame.
She made a living out of acting, which was difficult, though she still had her family to support her when she needed the help. The career had her moving often, wherever she was needed for filming; this made it difficult for her to maintain relationships. For a while, she was married to a man she had met while traveling, and had a daughter with him; but she found that the family life did not suit her at the time, and the marriage ended quickly, with her and the father sharing custody of the child.
Several years later, in Toronto, she met Andrew Akiyama, a movie director and Sparrow Akiyama’s father. Mei auditioned for and won a leading role in a movie he was shooting at the time. Shortly thereafter, they began dating, and they married a few months later. While Mei was not concerned about becoming more famous, Andrew insisted that she deserved far more recognition, which happened to fit nicely with his own goal of becoming a world-famous filmmaker. He has made several films that have been meant to serve as her breakthrough performance, but none of them have been successful enough yet, though he strongly believes each time that the next one will be the one to earn Mei, and himself, international fame.
