EARTHQUAKE IN MANHATTAN KILLS 32, INJURES HUNDREDS
Aaron Chandler, reporting from Washington Square Park, New York City 24 February 2015, 12:01 PM
An earthquake sent Manhattan into chaos this morning, at a particularly busy time of day. The epicenter is thought to be under Washington Square Park, at the park’s Arch. The earthquake caused several deaths, all due to debris falling on bystanders. Many others suffered injuries in the same manner. Nearby hospitals saw rushes of patients, and the medical wing of Los Angeles’ Jung Facility arrived on the scene as well.
The earthquake registered as a 5.6 on the Richter scale, which is considered “moderate.” As most of the structures in the area are modern and built to withstand medium-strength earthquakes, most buildings were not affected aside from some blown windows and internal damage. Some trees and artwork in the parks were felled, however.
Updates will be provided as further information is uncovered. For now, readers are welcome to share their earthquake stories.
