So there's a thing happening again.
This is Eclipse. You thought things would be quiet for long?
The link above is to an open thread taking place in Manhattan. That particular thread is open to anyone in Manhattan, but other threads will be cropping up in other places as well. You can even make your own threads on the topic.
The topic is diarrhea.
I'm not really joking.
An unusual strain of cholera has suddenly begun to infect tens of thousands of people across the contiguous States (compared to past events, that much loss of life actually is kind of small). The symptoms and results vary; some have crazy diarrhea, some see their skin start to pucker up, most get really dehydrated. And with this strain, the victims may suffer for days or weeks before passing away, or they may suffer that long and survive, or they may suffer for a couple of hours and meet a sudden, uncomfortable death.
The thing about cholera is that it's very common in the developing world, but is extremely rare outside it. So there are treatments for it, it's just that no one in our story - no hospital, no government agency, no volunteer group - was equipped to deal with cholera in the States on such a massive scale. And such a dangerous strain, for that matter.
Here's where you come in. An important point: You do not necessarily have to participate in this part of the plot. You can pick and choose which of your charries or NPCs fall ill, keeping in mind that this form of the disease is not always fatal. You can throw in some of your charries or all or none at all. Whatever achieves the greatest drama.
If you do choose to participate, there's that Manhattan thread if your charrie is there, and I know for sure that I will be starting one in Los Angeles, probably tomorrow. And like I said, you can make your own too.
Jung charries will play particularly important roles. The Jung Facility's medical wing will be rolling out to help treat the ill, and the psychology half will be on call for grief counseling. I'll be in touch with those players. If you don't play a Jung charrie but would like one of your charries to volunteer with Jung for this event, let me know and we'll arrange something.
There will also be assistance coming in from possibly unexpected places.
If you like, you can list which characters are being affected or not in this thread. You can also post questions here. If you'd like to do your own research, that's awesome too. Here are a couple of sites I used: CDC and Wikipedia. Also, if you have any doubts about the realism in this portrayal of cholera, I hope my license in medicine will assuage your worries on that count.
I hope you'll all find some opportunities for some interesting Character Development here.
Good luck, and good posting!

Resurgence Part II threads:
Dark That Follows: The introductory thread. Various characters fall ill as the disease is discovered.
Sleeper: In Los Angeles, representatives from the Jung Facility and Ark Industries enter a hospital - though not necessarily together - as part of their ongoing efforts to help others and find a proper treatment for it.
Into Themselves Collide: A group of volunteers, led by Constant Design & Development, check Manhattan's water facilities in search of the disease's catalyst.
The Infection Must Die: A personal thread. Lucius brings in his associate "Trevor" to help him cure his fiancee, Dakari.
Antananarivo: The cholera threat meets its match in the combined efforts of several brilliant doctors and scientists.
