Nikki hadn't been a fan of her abilities from the get go, of course gaining control of them made them much more bearable but overall she could have lived without them. Sure, often they came as aid to her, she was able to see things that others couldn't and know things that regular people alike herself would surely not know. They came as help from time to time, often in her line of work or at home when trying to figure out what secrets Danny was keeping when he'd come home from school in a big fat mood.
It wasn't right to use them on people, Danny was the exception at times because the boy was growing very fast and wasn't as talkative and as upfront as he had been before. Nikki wouldn't have ever dreamed using her abilities on Mitchell, they were honest about everything. This whole thing with Victor may not have been something she was fully aware of but she had her inkling and it didn't take long for everything to come out. She didn't judge him, nor turn against him like Grace had partially done to Michael. Nope, she stuck by him because she knew that Mitchell only acted when he felt necessary and Victor Vaughn was a rotten man.
The only thing she concerned about was the likelihood that Mitchell may have soon been caught in the web. Thankfullly, without a body, there wasn't much to go by and that concern could be well and truly laid to rest.
By now Kat and Kade were getting big, nearing to their first birthdays. They were growing up fast and as was Danny. Though, the twins were much more difficult then Danny was or had ever been. She and Mitchell were certain that they were like evil geniuses because of the way when one would switch off, the other would start up and for that they never got a moments rest. Funnily enough, the twins often became silent when Danny was around. He'd have them on the floor playing with toys and sometimes they'd just crawl around following him every where he went like little shadows.
All in all they were happy. They had a wonderful family, three beautiful kids, regardless of Danny not biologically being Mitchells it was all the same. Everything was perfect. Nikki hardly thought about her abilities and to be frank, life appeared much easier without them or the fuss of someone lashing out because society was still very much against them. It wasn't as easy for Mitchell since being a Watcher he'd had his face plastered everywhere, these days they tried to stay out of the limelight powers or no powers because it wasn't what they were about. Nikki preferred the route Gwen and the others had taken, to become what they once were and no longer appear to want all the fame and glory. Mitchell hadn't signed up for that, he just wanted to help.
Things in their relationship were moving at a steady pace, their family was in order, there jobs appeared to be settled and the two of them were able to focus more on one another instead of all the distractions around. Mitchell and Nikki had taken the next step in their relationship, engagement. Nikki didn't even have to think about it, she knew that he was the one she wanted to be with for the rest of her life. Mitchell was all she could ask for, a fantastic partner, an amazing father, he was everything she needed and more.
Today was her day off, Nikki had been working back with the NYPD for the past few months but at the moment was taking flexible shifts so that she could still spend time with the children. Her sister helped take care of them some days whilst she and Mitchell worked, a nanny, after the last was simply not up for negotiation..both parents were set against it.
The twins had just been put down for their afternoon rest whilst Danny was happily occupying himself with lego in the lounge. He was forever making stuff, he had a love for putting things together and taking them apart and usually she'd encourage it but when he decided to take her phone apart...it wasn't something she was favourable of.
With the kids settled she was able to focus on finishing up some work she'd bought home, she wasn't as bad as she used to be where she'd be addicted to her work and barely leave the office, Mitchell and the kids made coming home worth while, she looked forward to coming home and being with them...even when the kids were misbehaving, she took it with a pinch of salt.
All was quiet in the lounge, Nikki leant back in her seat, eyes gaping through the doorway at Danny who was still building away. Lately, he had a habit of wondering off, often prompting her to double lock the front and back door just in case he happened to venture outside. It wasn't safe, not just because of the busy roads but because people these days...you couldn't damn trust no one.
