**Los Angeles, California. During 1990**
Neville wasn't paying much attention to class today, Dr. Faiblesse was talking numbers again. Numbers never really made much sense to him. Sure he got by the exams due to something inside him telling him if the answer he wrote was factional or not, but he never really understood how he reached the answer itself.
His teachers always praised him as a prodigy even though in classes he was always imagining a world completely different from his. It was something he had been born with, and that people didn't know of.
It was... His dream. A world where everyone was like him.
He hated to be called a prodigy, mainly because he wasn't one, it was all... genetics. His classmates always thought that he was just antisocial and that was he never liked to help them study, but truth was that he couldn't teach them anything even if he wanted.
Genetics. That was an interesting subject, he had taken a couple of classes on that, still his mind told him there was unimaginable potential in the field.
Imagine being able to change the world, give them an awesome gift, the gift of unlimited power. It could make a revolution, and a good one at that, if everyone was a prodigy, the world would reach a new place in history.
He just needed to combine genetics with regular engineering, there had to be a way to alter DNA in a way that could allow him to turn everyone special.
Suddenly the design started appearing in front of him. The parts, the formulas, everything, he was imagining them as he started writing everything he was seeing like crazy.
One page, filled with designs and numbers.
Two pages, formulas and more piece designs everywhere.
People started looking him weirdly, even Professor Faiblesse stopped giving her lecture as he kept on writing. In that moment, Neville Reeves was remembering an old tale his father used to tell him when he was younger. The tale of Noah and his ark. The ark, the way in which God told Noah to save humankind and the rest of the evolutionary imperative creatures. Such a simple design that had saved evolution, and now thousands of years later, this Ark, Neville's ark was going to change the world again.
His father, a school teacher had told him once. "Son, you have a really gifted mind and I'm sure someday you'll change the world". He had always thought his father was a bit crazy to be honest, or that he just loved him too much. His crazy pirate and galactic filled fantasies would hardly ever change anything. But this... the design in front of him... This was definitely the definition of change.
7 pages, and the formulas were now more complex, they were crazier and more daring than anything any theorist would have ever written before him.
8 pages, Neville's hands were full of carbon from the pencil, his shirt ruined.
9 pages, Neville could feel his fingers giving up.
Finally, on the 10th page, he simply wrote. "Ark project" with big letters and put it over the other 9 pages.
Everyone was looking at him. He was used to this, he was used to starting a day dream and attract everyone's attention, but right now, it was one of those life defining moments. The professor kept on looking at him, it was definitely something that he shouldn't share. But then again, even if he did, people would think this was insane and would never work.
One thing he knew, from what he had written and thought of, what he was planning to do required a lot more money than he had, in fact it required more money than NASA did. In that moment though, it didn't matter, he would find a way to get his hands on the money.
