Wake up! Grab a brush and put a little make-up!
Hide the scars to fade away the shake-up!
Why'd ya leave the keys upon the table?!
Here you go, creatin' another fable!
______________________________System Of A Down - "Chop Suey!"
"Well, if you must know," Inaki began, still maintaining the feminine tone of voice they'd last heard over the holiday season. Nireva was somewhat impressed with how convincing he sounded, fitting in with the character of Faye Valentine far better than most men - and even some women - could muster and, as she listened while she ate, she couldn't help but smile. "I have a few things planned! A little bit of... this and a little bit of that. And a whole lot of... stuff in between!" The trio couldn't help but giggle at one another as they heard Inaki's cute indecision.
"A whole lot of stuff, huh?" Niri queried playfully, finishing the last of her breakfast. Picking up her empty plate, she placed both it and the cutlery she'd used into the small sink by the table before returning her attention to her costume. Having chosen a brand of body paint which dried quickly, she'd had no misgivings about sitting down to eat so soon after putting it on and, even with the interference of putting food into her mouth, nothing had smudged or fallen away. In future, she mused, she would have to give more thought about cosplaying other alien characters like Tali. The layer of body paint acted like its own foundation, filling in the voids and imperfections of her skin and taking care of most of the work for her. "If I didn't know any better..." She plucked the helmet of her environmental suit from the table and slid it over her head. When she resumed her train of audible thought, the electric blue LED mounted in the helmet's mouthpiece began to flicker. "...I'd say you were thinking of sneaking off to see the RWBY premiere again."
"Nothing wrong with that!", Jenna remarked, scouring the room as she made doubly sure she hadn't forgotten anything. Her wig was on, her hat hadn't fallen off (yet), she was already wearing her shoes... "Hah! There you are!" The short white gloves had started out as a set of low-cost costume props; much like the ones a magician would wear but, after bulking up the area around the wrist to create a tighter-looking band, Jenna had managed to turn them into something more refined and fitting for an officer of the law. The crimson traffic baton had been repurposed in equal measure. After stealing the innards from a toy lightsaber from Star Wars, she had used a combination of Nireva and the internet to switch out some of the lacklustre components for ones which would elicit a more striking glow. Rather than reuse the lightsaber's hilt, Jenna had instead used the hilt from a torch and, with help from a friend, had been able to fashion a clear plastic tube with a threaded end which she could then screw into place.
"Besides, we're all gonna be doing some sneaking around of our own. We can always call each other up or send messages if we wanna meet up." As if by compulsion, Jenna opened up her satchel, relieved to see that her phone and other belongings were still there. The three of them were all dressed up and ready to once again immerse themselves in the throng of other cosplayers and the various events they had each promised to attend. It may have still been a couple of hours until Jenna's fellow Pokemon cosplayers were set to congregate on one of the grass fields by the convention centre's main entrance but, after taking the crowds into account, Nireva was gradually becoming aware that she, at least, would need to start heading out in relatively short order.
"You'll just have to keep a look out for me if you really want to know what I'm doing," Inaki remarked cryptically. Although he'd initially sounded like he didn't have the slightest clue as to what he would be doing on Saturday, he was now dropping various hints to the contrary; implying that he knew precisely what he would be doing once he'd beaten the queues but, like Nireva the day before, was keeping the cards close to his augmented chest. "That is, if either of you can avoid getting bogged down in crowds, you sexy fiends."
"I'm not so sure calling an Admiral a sexy fiend is entirely appropriate, Miss Soler." Folding her arms, Jenna once again tried to look like a stern-faced police officer. Normally, she would have been able to look somewhat imposing, but when she was cosplaying a short-skirted police officer with blue hair, it just wasn't going to have the same effect. "I'll let it slide this time, but please be careful in future?" It didn't take her long to give up and make her way over to the door. "Have fun, you two! See you at the auditorium, Niri!"
"Crap, she's right," Nireva sighed, her eyes darting over to the clock. "I should really get going. If I don't get through the queue early enough, I'm gonna be late." Picking up her Omni-Blade - the same one she'd made last year - from the couch, she clipped it around her forearm and folded the blade inward. "Here's hoping I don't get sacrificed within the first five minutes, huh?" She, like the other thirty-one cosplaying "chess pieces" taking part, had no idea how the chess game would unfold. Portraying her team's respective queen, Nireva at least was able to surmise that she would last beyond the first dozen or so moves. The pawns, however, weren't going to be so lucky. But that was how the draw had worked out. There was no changing everyone's place now.
