Personality-
For the most part Corey is a pretty nice guy, but one thing people would probably notice about him is the fact that he is stubborn. He has always been that way ever since the day he came into this world. Corey does not like to give up on anything that he begins and definitely does not like to yield to the public just because they think he should behave one way or another. Of course with that sort of mindset he can get himself into a lot of trouble. But he believes that it is worth it all. He is willing to admit whenever he is wrong. It may take awhile, but he will eventually do so. He is a man that sticks to his guns no matter what until he has been proven wrong.
He likes to meet new people and have conversations with strangers, Corey is a people’s person through and through. But he cannot stand those morons that like to insult the specials just because they are different. He cannot stand anyone that insults individuality or difference. It pisses him off and he is quick to let them know that. Sometimes though, he has to bite his tongue, for instance while on the job. Corey cares for other people greatly and hates to see another in pain, unless that person happens to deserve to be in the condition that they are in. He will console a person that needs it, lend a helping hand, and help talk someone through whatever it is that they need.
Another aspect of Corey is that he likes to have a good time when he is off duty. Partying it up at the clubs is a pastime for him. He enjoys being around other people, especially if those people are attractive ladies. Corey is not really one to just hook up with a girl and ditch her the next morning, but if that is all the girl wants then he’s all for it. He does not overdo it with the drinking and the going crazy. He knows how to have a good time without going crazy like the younger people. He prefers to hang with people closer so his age after all.

Abilities/Powers/Skills-
Corey has the ability to increase his physical durability. On command, his body produces an excessive amount of keratin causing his skin, hair, and nails to become incredibly tough and resistant to injury. Conventional means of assault have no effect on the man when his power is activated. The extra keratin makes the entire outside of his body impervious to things such as gunfire from small side arms to the larger caliber weapons that fire off armor piercing rounds. He has survived a 100 foot drop onto solid concrete with no injuries to report while one day working on the job. Corey’s enhanced durability even lets him survive the equivalent force of an M67 hand grenade going off directly on his chest. He would still get tossed quite a distance, but he would walk away fine. Corey’s organs and bones are kept safe from injury because his skin absorbs the force from whatever is assaulting him like one large shock absorber. This prevents him from taking internal damage from the forces exerted on the man. Knives and other sharp weapons cannot pierce or cut his skin unless someone with an incredible amount of inhuman strength is doing the stabbing. Depending on the quality of the weapon and the force exerted, the metal would bend or break or simply bounce off.
When it comes to temperatures, Corey can survive at a maximum heat temp of 1400 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of -50 degrees Fahrenheit without any protection outside of something to keep his eyes from being effected. His skin takes on an almost chain mail appearance and is hard to the touch whenever he is using this aspect of his powers. While he does not possess super strength, his attacks hurt more than the average man of his physical build. Because of the hardness it would be like getting punch with brass knuckles. The second aspect of his mutation is his enhanced stamina. Similar to how he can increase the production of keratin, Corey can increase the amount of myoglobin his body produces. Myoglobin is a protein in the body found in the skeletal and cardiac muscles and is responsible for the storage of oxygen and transportation of it for oxidative phosphorylation. The excessive amount of oxygen found in his muscles allows Corey to maintain a high level of activity for longer periods of time. This also applies to how long he can stay submerged in water just like other mammals such as seals and whales. At the maximum output, Corey can remain active without fatigue for three hours straight and stay underwater for an hour.
Limits-
Because Corey has to will his abilities to activate, he is not always protected. In a heated situation of course he is going to be ready to shift, but when caught by surprise, the man can be killed by the ordinary means. Also, his insides are still vulnerable to attack if someone were to slip a weapon into his mouth. While he cannot be injected, he could be poisoned through ingestion. Corey’s eyes and eardrums and mouth are all vulnerable spots for attack. If he tries to exert himself beyond the three hour limit, he runs the risk of muscle injury which will cause the myoglobin to leak into his bloodstream resulting in kidney failure. Not necessarily a weakness, but every time he uses this half of his ability, Corey has to make a bathroom stop to release the excess that has built up and been turned to urine.
Appearance-
Corey has a pretty basic clothing style that consists of button downs and t-shirts mostly. One constant is his leather jacket. He likes to wear it over almost everything that he wears when out running the streets. He does not care for the overpriced clothing or whatever the up-to-date fashion may be at the time. But it would be lying to say that he did not like to look good. He has a suit or two stashed in the closet that gets pulled out for those special occasions. Corey goes by the philosophy of it being the man that makes the clothes, not the other way around.
When it comes to his actual appearance, Corey is a rather handsome fellow. He has a strong jaw line and pronounced chin to match. Thick eyebrows hover over eyes that are a light shade of blue to the point that they almost look gray. Whenever Corey lets his facial hair grow out he makes sure to keep it trimmed low and in shape in the style of a goatee. The man stands at an average height of 5’10 and weighs 182 pounds. Just by looking at him one can tell that he works out to keep his body in shape. While he is not stocky or bulky, Corey does have defined muscles beneath those clothes.

History-
When Derrick West and Carey Jordan met in high school it was definitely not love at first sight, at least not on both sides. While Derrick was awfully attracted to the young lady, Carey would have nothing to do with him for the longest time. He was persistent though because good things came to those that had patience and Derrick had plenty. All through the first two years of high school, Derrick did whatever he could to win her over: kind words, small gifts here and there, and help whenever she needed. One day during their junior year, Carey finally caved in and went out on a date with him. In truth, as much as she behaved as if she had no interest in him, Carey did enjoy seeing Derrick everyday. Their first date was a big success that would lead on to bigger and better things. But before that could happen, Carey felt she needed to come clean to him about a secret she had been holding on to for years. Her parents didn’t even know.
Carey possessed the unique ability to move at speeds at which no human should ever have been able to move. When she first showed Derrick, he was stunned and confused and honestly frightened. It took him awhile to process it all. Once he had, Derrick decided to keep on dating her. He was not about to let some weird anomaly stand in the way of how he felt about her. So, after a couple of years of dating, they were married at the young age of 20 and a year later gave birth to their first child, Corey. Despite his mother being a special, Corey’s life was pretty normal.
When he was five years old, a new addition came into the family in the form of a little brother, Diedrick. Five years after Diedrick’s birth, the final addition to the family came, this time a baby girl named Jackie. With every child came the question of whether or not they would develop some sort of ability like their mother. Carey and Derrick kept a close eye on their children always looking for signs of extraordinary feats. It seemed like whatever made Carey different from other humans did not apply to Corey and his siblings.
Growing up as the oldest of three, Corey had a lot of responsibility placed on his shoulders to help take care and look out for his siblings. It was annoying whenever Diedrick wanted to do everything he did and play with all of his toys, but Corey put with it because it was his job. He loved his little brother even during the times he wanted to kick his little butt for knocking down the Lego buildings he built. With his dad being a construction worker, Corey was always fascinated with building things. Even as young as seven he wanted to help his dad make repairs around the house building cabinets and little odds and ends. It was a great way for the boy to keep active while expressing his creativity. By the time high school rolled around, his father had left the company he was working for, became qualified as a contractor, and opened up his very own contracting business, West Contracting.
Corey was taught everything that his father knew and often helped him out on jobs around the neighborhood. When he graduated from high school and turned 18 later that year, Corey became an official employ of West Contracting while his siblings continued their schooling. For the next ten years he worked with his father in the small company doing jobs from local housing to working on government establishments around the city of Chicago. At the age of 28, his young sister now 18, started to show signs that she was no ordinary human. Whenever Jackie got too stressed and her adrenaline was pumping she would gain inhuman amounts of speed and strength. If it was not for their mother being around to guide her, there was no telling what could have happened to his sister. Diedrick and Corey still showed no signs of any special abilities. It seemed like the specials would only be female in the West family.
About three years later their father started to develop arthritis in his left knee and hands which made it difficult to do his job. The man was already 52 years old, so he decided to retire and hand over ownership of the business to Corey. After sticking around Chicago for two more years, Corey figured that it was time to branch out with the company. West Contracting relocated to the great city of New York. For the past six years Corey has been living in New York City living as normal a life as he could, but worried about his family since the initiation of the registration of specials. He knew that something like that would only lead to bad things for people like his mother and sister. To make matters even worse, two weeks ago Corey’s latent ability finally manifested on the job. He had been working on the roof of a tall building making some minor repairs when he misplaced his footing and slipped off the edge. He fell 100 feet onto the solid concrete below in an alley.
He lay unconscious for a few seconds before coming to. For a moment Corey thought that he was dead, but that was not the case. He didn’t even have any broken bones or bruises. During the fall, his ability activated in the heightened state of fear and adrenaline and saved the man’s life. When the other workers came down and asked how he survived the fall, all could do was say that it was God’s work. In reality Corey knew that he must have developed an ability like his family. Ever since, he has continued running the company while trying to figure out his place in the world and not get found out by the government.
Anything else?- (any other important information we should know?)
Sample RP-
The world was in a crazy state of late. The government was forcing special individuals to register and sign away their freedom. Corey could understand why the officials would want to have these kind of files on hand because there were plenty of bad people with abilities, but that left the innocents caught in the crossfire. It was not right what was being done. He was damn sure that somewhere out there specials were being experimented on, being turned into weapons for the army. It was not a stretch to think like that given the way that humans operated. Still though, maybe he had seen one too many movies or read too much science fiction. The man was just thinking about his mother and sister. He did not want anything bad to happen to them.
“Hey boss,” said one of the workers. “You mind if I get Tuesday off?”
Corey raised up his hard hat and wiped the sweat from his brow before looking to the worker. “What is it for this time, Jimmy?” he asked somewhat annoyed.
“My sister’s getting married.”
“Again? What the hell happened to the last guy?”
“He turned out to be something of a asshole.” Jimmy laughed.
“That gal needs to find someone nice and stop messing with all these thugs.” Corey bent over and picked up the drill.
“That a yes?” asked Jimmy.
“Yea yea,” Corey answered waving him off. “Just make sure to save me some cake this time. The last wedding that thing was gone befSHIT!” While carrying on with the conversation, Corey had forgotten to pay attention to what he was doing. The other workers yelled out his name, but all they could do was watch in absolutely horror as their boss slipped off the side of the building and plummet a hundred feet. Corey could not believe that this was how his life was going to end. This was how he would be taken out. He always thought that his time would come after living to at least eighty and having grandchildren. But no. As the pavement rapidly approached all he could think about was his family. Their faces flashed through his mind before everything went dark.
Am I dead? Is this Heaven? If so why heck does it smell so much like a pile of garbage? And are those police sirens I hear? Wait a minute…
After a moment of lying motionless on the ground, Corey finally opened his eyes to see an old, dirty dumpster staring back. Realizing what just happened he jumped to his feet and looked around the empty alley. He was alive and well. Nothing was broken or bleeding. How in the hell was that even possible? The man knocked a piece of trash from his shoulder and stared back up at the building he’d just fell from. His eyes then went wide when it finally donned on him. “Holy crap. I’m a special.”
