Night out of beers and murder (Travis) « Thread Started on Oct 29, 2009, 3:53pm »
His wife was asleep now, he turned around to look at her. He loved her, even if this job was starting to take the best of him, he loved her. He looked at her for another five minutes, wondering what she would say if she ever found out about what he did that night in Vegas some weeks ago.
She would probably get really mad, but how could he explain to her that it wasn't because he didn't love her, but because he was feeling confused and wanted some of his old life back. But if hadn't been the solution, things hadn't been any better.
He made a portal to his warehouse in Chicago, it was 3 am there. He had been working over time this past weeks. Not only with Specialis, but by himself.
As while the old man running Specialis might like to think that Harry was working for him, Harry knew it was other wise, even if the old guy got really angry about that. He didn't have what the tools that Harry did. Not even close.
The Chicago warehouse was truly a marvelous place, he remembered hiding some specials here during the government raid, but now it serve to a much higher purpose.
It looked like some sort of alternative weird exposition show. From the ceiling, lots of threads fell. Different colors each. Each color representing a different evil in the future.
He wasn't a time traveler, he knew that, the only three Harry had heard of were Danny Wallace, Hiro Nakamura some asian guy he had stolen a file from the company, and some old dude named Arnold which he had heard from folklore, apparently there was a legend about him in some old gypsy shows. But no, Harry wasn't master of time and space, he could only bend space, that was it, create wormholes in the fabric of it. However it made him special, perhaps even more so than the others.
Each time they time traveled to see the future they changed something, their mere presence caused a butterfly effect, but Harry, he was learning to simply see it, as a mere spectator. To measure how the future changed each time he did something.
In the hanging threads, photographs and news paper articles could be seen. The only blue thread was the original time line, the one in which he died somewhere in the next 5 years and were Senator Hatali was president and everything went to hell.
Then there were many more threads. A time line that diverged after Harry killed Senator Hatali. Somehow the world was still in chaos in the future after his death, there was a government system that had proved more effective than the Senator. Then he killed Monica, because in the future he had learned that she was one of the specials that caused public to become aware of them. But the future was still gray, Harry didn't know what else to do. He had sent Sara to kill Justin Marvalo because as a part of the Rogue Society he had done a lot of evil, but still a dark future. After every new member was added to Specialis he checked, and now there were about 12 alternate futures, all of them different from each other but all of them still ending up in Genocide of his kind.
He began to wonder if perhaps he had killed Monica for nothing, perhaps she had been innocent and the future didn't depend on her, but another variable. He needed to find that variable and put an end to it and fast.
A big box with Adrenaline syringes was there next to a desk, and on top of it a notebook with a lot of hand writing, Harry's hand writing. Anyone else but Harry would make no sense of his notes. Some pages were filled with chemical notations and a lot of numbers, years and quantities. The other pages were filled with notes about events changed in the present and it's corresponding futures. Several pages for each of the threads.
Harry sighed and went to the desk, grabbing a syringe from the box and sitting down, he grabbed a new page and wrote the number 1095 on it. Then he started making an equation, until his x gave him the amount of 3 milliliters.
He marked the syringe where the 3 milliliters were done and applied a tiny injection to his arm. Harry started to sweat and he closed his eyes, he had to concentrate deeply into not opening a portal or it could change everything. He saw some events, his clairvoyance being able to function through time when the adrenaline was applied. Meanwhile he started to write on the note book.
And one name came out of his experience. Emma Roberts. Also, he had gathered knowledge about some disease. This was present in almost every alternate future and Harry knew it was something important, something he needed to know more about.
He looked at his notebook. Emma Roberts and The sickness being the two things more remarkable on it. He sighed, he would make some changes on the time line and come back to see if it had fixed anything. He was tired, the adrenaline always took a lot out of him. He was beginning to get desperate, even though he knew he was doing this for the well being of specials, there was also something else troubling him about every time line. In all of them he was dead.
He needed a fresh input, he needed to stop thinking about apocalypse and his own mortality, and he knew what to do. Creating a portal he appeared in the middle of his best friend's house.
"Hey Travis, it's me... You got a minute?" he yelled from his living room. He didn't realize it was 3 am and that his friend might be sleeping. "I've brought beer with me"
He left the 30 pack on his kitchen table and looked around, it was really dark, though his eyes were used to the darkness now, from the shadows everything looked fine, although he had the feeling that Travis might have problems of his own, perhaps he wouldn't be interested in helping Harry with his problems.
He sighed and was beginning to think that maybe his friend wouldn't appreciate his late night visit.

Travis was somewhat of a light sleeper; in some instances it made sense. Having the ability to control the wind, he could feel shifts and movements within the air without so much as trying. So it didn't strike odd when the man arose to strange surplus of movement within his home as he laid over his bed. Popping his groggy head up from the side of his pillow, Travis thought he heard something coming from his living room; he had only caught the last statement of the comment.
""I've brought beer with me"" the voice asked. Travis groaned loudly as he rolled over on his side and began to sit up. Slouching over the side of his bed, Travis took a quick peak over at his alarm clock and saw that he was still due for another couple hours of sleep. Unless of course, daylight savings time was seriously on the ritzz.
Wiping his eyes of any eye-crust, Travis stood up from his bed and began to make his way to a basket filled with dirty clothes. Snatching a white shirt and putting it on, he dragged his feet to the entrance of his living room. Low and behold, he'd find Harrison there.
"You do realize its like..." Travis stopped to take a look at the wall clock he had located in his apartment. "...3 in the morning, right? Besides, shouldn't you be home with you wife or something?" Dragging his feet over to lamp where he turned the light on, he flopped down on the couch with eyes half-closed.

"Well it's only 3 am here, I'm on Vegas time" said Harry. "So it doesn't count"
"And my wife and daughter are sleeping long since, so it's alright" said Harry. "Besides I did say I would drop by from time to time to keep you on line"
He remembered his life with the watchers, it had been a rough couple of months, but he had been so naive, if he knew then what he knew now, it would be a completely different story. It would have saved him a lot of unnecessary trouble.
"Come on, you can't say no to beer" said Harry as he put them in the fridge and took two out with his powers, handing one to him. His head started to ache, he had done two big portals, one to Chicago and one to New York, so his head wasn't feeling at his best, this small portals didn't help, perhaps he should take beer the old fashioned way now. The thought wasn't good, and each time he got one of those headaches Harry felt like the future was coming quicker.
He opened one and took it. "So... How's been life for ya?" he said to his friend. It had been some weeks since that girl in Vegas that was totally infatuated with Travis, and Harry hoped that the issue wouldn't be brought up tonight.

Travis only heard fragments of words that were being uttered out of Harrison's mouth. Went without saying that the man was not one for early mornings (or nights, however you saw it). Though the man did catch something that brought him to attention.
"Come on, you can't say no to beer" he informed Travis before using his abilities to exchange a couple of bottles. It came as no surprise that Harry would use his power to do the simplest of things - like grabbing a couple of beers. Maybe it was because Travis never used his aerokenesis for practical things such as grabbing a bottle of beer. Than again maybe it was Harrison's constant use of his ability that made him so powerful. Well whatever the case, Travis never saw any issue in it.
"So... How's been life for ya?" Harrison asked.
"Well," Travis started to say, "Watchers seem to be running smoothly, I'm getting closer to figuring out who this Zeph person is, and I've got a new girlfriend." A toothy grin appeared on the man's face as he spoke about his current relationship with Gwen. It was one thing to have somebody in his life, it was another to actually have somebody to love - and Travis loved Gwen. "You two met before I think."

Harry didn't know shit about a Zeph guy but he played along and when he mentioned his girlfriend he tried to act as if he didn't know what he was talking about.
"Met before?" asked Harry. "I don't think so but maybe it was a long time ago, I mean I did spend three years away"
He tried to change the conversation away from his relationship. "About that, do you know about anything weird lately? A disease or something, I've been doing some research lately, and it has came a lot in it... It might be important some time in the future..."
Of course that by research he meant getting high on adrenaline and spend hours looking into the future, worsening his condition and his mental state as he did so. He didn't even know that he had the disease, for all he knew it was overusing his power.
"Anyway, Vegas sucks man, I liked going there for vacations but living there is a nightmare" he said. "Constant noise 24/7... and I dread the day where I have to explain to my daughter what prostitution is..."

Travis merely shrugged at Harry's abrasive attitude towards his mentioning of Gwen. Perhaps he was a little jealous of the fact that now, after all these years, Travis finally had somebody in his life to love - minus the wedding rings and baby. The simple thought of his friend changing diapers in the middle of the night was a hilarious one, and something he had to keep himself from blurting out from laughter.
"About that, do you know about anything weird lately?" Harrison began to ask catching Travis full-blown attention again. "A disease or something, I've been doing some research lately, and it has came a lot in it... It might be important some time in the future..."
"A disease?" Travis repeated as he finally decided to open the beer bottle that Harrison had passed over to him earlier. "No...can't say that I'm familiar with it but I'm sure I could help with any information. With these damn serial killings going around the city, it could be anything at this point." Taking a quick swig of his drink, the man set the beer down and leaned back against his couch while scratching his head.
"Anyway, Vegas sucks man, I liked going there for vacations but living there is a nightmare. Constant noise 24/7... and I dread the day where I have to explain to my daughter what prostitution is..." Travis chuckled a bit.
"Well look at you. Mr. Family Man, all grown up and taking care of business. I gotta say, I never thought I'd see the day when [i]you[/] of all people, would settle down. I honestly thought you'd be a bachelor till the day you died."

If there was one thing he didn't missed was the serial killers, seriously. Though in some way he was a serial killer himself now, though it was a completely different matter though, he wasn't doing this for the kicks of it, he was doing it for everyone.
"Yeah well, if you get any information just let me know" said Harry. "So about those serial killers? What's the status? How many you've got?"
It was casual conversation, Harry wasn't worried of Travis and the rest of them finding out and chasing him to tell the truth. He had many other things in his mind to worry about.
When Travis said that he thought he would be a bachelor till the day he died, Harry's stomach cringed a little. It was like a ticking clock with the seconds counted for. He didn't know exactly when but he knew that his death wasn't as far as he wished it was, nothing he had done had prevented it anyway.
He turned a pale white. "Yeah, well, you know what they say, live every day like it's the last one right?"
Overall, knowing that you weren't going to be alive in five years sucked.

"Right," Travis responded to Harrison's earlier comment as he stood up from his couch and made way towards his kitchen. Flipping on the switch to the lights, the man went straight for his cabinet and pulled out a bag of chips. He was never one to drink on an empty stomach, and he couldn't afford to be sick either. To many leads in this Nursery Rhyme case was coming underway and Travis was so close to nabbing their first suspect.
Yanking off the twisty that held the bag closed, Travis reached in and devoured a handful of salt and vinegar lays - his favorite.
"Okay Harrison, lets be honest for a minute shall we?" Travis asked in between chews. "You barely come over here unannounced in the middle of the night unless you're in some type of trouble. The last time you pulled this stunt, you were sleeping on my couch for almost a month. But now...now it seems like you've gon and got yourself in some deep shit."
Travis was blunt when it came to his friend, but only because he cared. He felt he could talk to him openly and without regrets because everything shared would be of the utmost honesty. Besides, after saving the world on numerous occasions together how else could he approach him?

Harry didn't know where to begin, even his wife which he had spent three years in the past with and whom he had traveled to the future with as well didn't know the full story. Besides, how much could he tell Travis? He remembered shooting rat face during the Ice Killer case, they had had a fist fight over it later. If he told him he had killed at least two people so far and that more were to come, he wouldn't understand. He would have to leave those tiny details out of the story.
"Yeah... well, you know how I told you I knew you were still alive because I saw it on the future?" asked Harry to his friend. "Well that's not the only thing I saw there..."
"I was dead in that future Travis, and I had this family..." said Harry. "And the world was a shithole, I mean you think we had bad during jail break? The future is way worse..."
"So then I came back, and after the Senator's death I decided to use a bit of adrenaline... I've used it before, to boost my ability..." he said casually. "His death changed nothing, sure he wasn't the president anymore but everything else still came true, and I was still dead..."
"I changed something else in the timeline and went back there to check" said Harry. "Still a shithole and I was still dead"
"I don't know if you see the pattern here" said Harry to Travis. "But no matter what I change, the world still ends up a shithole in five years and I still end up six feet under"
"I've been working my ass off trying to prevent the world from ending up a shithole and keep me alive in the process, but I always fail..." said Harry. "I have a room filled with information from different realities... and I've gotten no where..."
"So... That's what's up..." said Harry to his friend finally. It felt weird, saying it out loud. It felt more real, admitting that he was going to be dead in 5 years. He wouldn't be there to see his daughter grow up. Phoebe... Poor Phoebe... Perhaps if she found out he had cheated her, she would hate him and suffer less when he died. He had contemplated telling her, but had never had the guts to do it. Instead he hoped to find the one change that would completely change the future.

Travis stood there with his bag of salt and vinegar chips listening to Harrison tell his tales on his life thus far. He didn't know what to say or else what to do at that point and time. Harrison was going to die in the net 5 years? No...no it couldn't be true. There were too many things that the man had gone through that ensured death at that moment, why couldn't he pull the same trick twice? Why couldn't Travis ever find people who weren't destined to leave his life completely?
"This is bullshit," Travis grumbled as he tossed his chips to the side. "Y'know, I've dealt with a lot of things in the past year now. I've watched a lot of people that I love just drop like flies in front of me. It's like God's punishing me for all the wrong I did in the past, and I don't think I can take it anymore." The man began to pace back and forth in his small space as memories of all of his friends and family members surfaced. The death of his mother, the disappearance of his first love Corina, the absence of his father, the lose of Anz and Trixie....he couldn't take anymore.
Travis paused in his steps as he turned to his cabinet filled with varieties of liquor. Pulling out a bottle and a glass, he poured him out something to drink and downed it quickly. This was obviously going to be an interesting day.
"I can't lose you Harrison," Travis said after another swallow. His eyes rested on the bottle in front of him. Sad too for while he wanted so badly to cry at the matter, he could only find the strength to smile and chuckle. "I've lost too many people in my life. I've seen too many deaths that only one man should be able to see, and I just can't handle it all. Its wearing me down everyday of my life, and I grow weaker because of it. You, Zoey, Gwen, Mike, hell even Conall, are the only people I have left...that's it. You're the only reason I have to live." His voice began to rise in a frustrated anger.
"Now you can stand there and call me emotional or melodramatic, but I don't have a choice right now. When you grow up without anybody, you tend to be a little angry at the world. And you tend to think that being a hero isn't what its cracked up to be when the world turns around and tries to steal away the people you care about!"

"Oh Jeez Travis, I'm sorry my death is such an inconvenient for you" said Harry with a sarcastic tone. "I'll tell my wife and daughter to send you flowers when I drop dead"
He was watching him with an 'I can't believe you are such a jackass' look. Seriously, did he just said all of that? Come on, it wasn't like he was the one dying. "Don't worry, I'll be sure to buy you a new friend when I die so you won't feel so lonely" said Harry to him still with a sarcastic tone.
Truth was that he was freaking out enough, without Travis being such an asshole about it. He was having a complete emotional breakdown, and was perhaps doing a bunch of stupid things because he was in denial, he hadn't accepted that he was going to die yet. So he had killed some people, allied himself with a creepy organization, cheated on his wife and used enough adrenaline to stop 8 elephant's hearts.
"I came here because I'm freaking out, I don't need you freaking out as well" said Harry. "I need a freaking friend right now, and apparently you are the only one I've got, so start acting like one before I kick your ass"

Travis narrowed his eyes as Harrison responded to all of Travis's comments. A small laugh escaped his lips as he raised his hands to place them on his head, still flabbergasted about the whole situation.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know that your upcoming death wasn't that important," Travis shot back with the same sarcasm. "I mean, wow, look at me being all emotional because his friend wakes him up in the middle of the night to tell him that he's going to die about it. But thats okay...because you're cool with it. And apparently, whatever Harrison says goes, right?"
Travis wasn't so much angry at Harrison than he was just lashing out. It was to be expected that the man wouldn't handle news of his friends departure because Travis has never been one to handle any type of departure.
"So I tell you what," Travis continued to say as he made way out of the kitchen and towards his living room. Sitting on his couch, he used his ability to bring forth a pen and pad to write down on. "Since I'm over reacting about the whole fucking thing, why don't I just throw you a "Going Away" party so that we patch this all up, kay? And while we're at it, lets invite all of the Watchers and the sluts you slept with through the years. Oh, and lets not forget the family you're soon going to be leaving behind." His sarcasm was slowly slipping more and more into anger.
"And while we're at it, why don't we think up a list of people I can replace you with, cause obviously my friendship to you means nothing at all." Throwing the pen and paper down on the table, he looked up at Harrison with raging eyes. "Unfukingbelievable. You still think that no matter what happens it doesn't affect anybody but yourself. Did you even think how I would react to this news?! I'm sorry I can't be the shoulder to cry on at the moment, but I just had some heavy shit laid out in front of me that I still need to process!"

"I'm going to ignore all of that, because you are being an asshole and you're going to regret this some day" said Harry. "But keep it up and I will kick your ass..."
He created a portal and took a beer out of the fridge with it, his nose beginning to bleed a lot, although he didn't even noticed due to being pissed at Travis.
"You know this is all my fault" said Harry. "Silly me for thinking that a friend might actually try to cheer me up a little instead of making me feel more crap than I already feel..."
He downed the beer with one drink and noticed some kind of bloody flavor on it. And not the British bloody, the actual blood bloody. He put the now bloody bottle on the table and put his hand on his nose, noticing the blood. "Fuck... Be right back" said Harry as he went to his bathroom for some toilet paper for the nose bleed and then to the fridge for another beer, it felt weird opening the fridge in a normal way.
"Anyway, were was I?" said Harry. "Oh yeah, sorry to have fucking ruined your night, your crying majesty..."

Though Travis was listening to Harrison speak, he couldn't help but notice the excessive amounts of blood that poured out from his nostrils. Sure it was normal to have a little nose-bleed from time to time, but the way the blood seemed to come out seemed odd with Travis. If anything, it seemed almost abnormal. But he didn't question it in fear that Harrison would think that he was being selfish again. He watched as the man took out another beer from his "portable" refrigerator
"My God, must I do everything by myself," Travis snapped at the man as he jumped to his feet and walked over towards him. Snatching the beer from his hands and thrusting Harrison's head back with his fingers, Travis lead the man to one of his chairs next to his dinning table. "You don't drink alcohol when you're bleeding like this...it thins your blood out and makes you bleed more." Sitting him down he looked at his hands and shook his head. "If you're going to die, its not going to be tonight."
Walking into his kitchen and going to his sink, he turned the water faucet on and began to wash his hands. Grabbing the soap and apply a small amount, he lathered up a good amount of suds before looking back in Harrison's direction.
"Tell me something," Travis started to ask, still obviously upset. "In this future you saw that involved your death...do you find out how you die? I mean from the way you speak, it almost sounds as if though somebody..." He stopped himself. He knew Harrison would pick up on what he was going to say.

"I'll bleed regardless of the alcohol, I'm just older, I can't use my powers like I used to" said Harry as he got back his beer and gave another sip to it.
"I know it's not going to be tonight" said Harry. Though he actually didn't know when, the future he saw, deaths occurred so commonly that death records were almost impossible to keep, he just knew that it didn't happen in this moment, because if it did there would be some sort of record.
Then he was asking about how he died, that was a good question. He knew how he died in the first future he saw, the one where he went with Phoebe, but he had no clue about how it happened in the other ones. He just knew he was dead because what he had read and seen around specially in his house, but he didn't really know for sure.
"Uhm..." said Harry whose head hurt like a bitch and was having trouble remembering. "In the first future I die rescuing Ben Reed's family..."
"But I'm not sure about what happens in the rest of them" said Harry. "Those futures, they are shitholes... There's no sense of organization, there are wars everywhere, millions of deaths... In the first future, our kind died from government extermination camps, but in the new ones, it always changes, but in the end it's always us versus them, they got guns and numbers... We've got... Well... There are people with extreme powers out there Travis, there are human a-bombs out there, people that can kill with touch, people that are human viruses... It's not a pretty sight"
He took another sip of the beer, the blood was slowing down and he knew it would stop soon.
"Something happens... And they start killing us, and we answer back" said Harry. "It's something different in every reality, but in the end it's basically the same result"
