 Have Your Say!
« Thread Started on Jan 5, 2011, 1:34pm »

Hey guys,

So I noticed we don’t use the suggestion thread a whole lot. Now, I know it’s not because you guys have nothing to say, but I think maybe sometimes you’re a little hesitant. Don’t worry. I get that. When I first became staff here I was never sure what and when to say things, a total bag of nerves. Now, I think I’m slowly getting the jist of it, or I hope so cause it’s been a while now and I haven’t figured it out yet..i’m never going to lol :P

I would like to hear from all of you. I’d like you all to either reply here or..if you prefer send me a PM. I’d like to hear what you guys think about us at Eclipse. Maybe you think we could benefit from doing something different?

I speak to a lot of you and I’ve heard a lot of things, dating back to when I was doing my MIT so I know you all have something to say. It’s just getting you to say it that’s the hard part :P

Your suggestions can be site wide or a particular area or even faction if you want. I know that I have made boards for people in the factions Company and Elite where the members/agents can give there feedback and ideas and so far it’s doing really good and I think that by involving them, it’ll only make the factions better because it’s everyone’s effort.

The point is, the plot..the main site plot involves everyone and effects everyone and I think that the more we know about what you guys want, the better this place can be. So come on, tell us your ideas and your thoughts. Do you want to be involved in the plots more and planning? Do you want to see all the factions expand and kick some serious butt?..i wanna know.

Like I said, reply here or if you wish to keep your thoughts away from others eyes for whatever reason then you can PM me. I really would like to see what you guys think because at the end of the day without the members this place wouldn’t be what it is :)

I would like to see a Ark Character Contest to get them more members! Maybe have a couple of winners but the number 1 can be CEO or something. I am very interested in the Ark since they aren't doing and who doesn't like technology made for and by specials. Plus, This way I can submit my 2nd character!

I've got a few ideas that I feel could work well.

First off, I wanna start by saying that I like Ark and Jung and all of those cool user groups. They're great and definitely work well with the plot and everything. With that said however, I wanna suggest that we remove those groups from the usergroups. They'd still exist and be just as important as they've always been, they simply wouldn't be a usergroup. Not a lot of people are really joining all of those groups and it just seems strange to have so many user groups and only a handful of them are really used.

This leads into my second idea. I was wondering if we could bring back the old way of making new factions/user groups. Players could buy a slot and, with the help of a set number of other players, make their own faction. That used to be something we could do and was a pretty decent way to spend money. Now, however, the only thing we really have to spend money on is houses and new characters. As long as there's enough room for more factions/user groups, I figure why not let people make groups?

Though it should be noted that even though you as a player have created a cool group that works for your characters' plots, you shouldn't necessarily try and get that group turned into a faction. Like, take Roland for instance. In his plot (and to an extent, the rest of my characters' plots), a nameless (so far) organization is really affecting his life. They could essentially be turned into a faction, considering exactly how important and widespread they are. Just because they're this awesome group however doesn't mean that I want to really make a faction out of them.

Factions can still be made all the time, in name only really, but they're still there, still important. Just some ideas to think about, really.

Thirdly, I've got an idea about staff stuff. I've suggested it before to Grace in pops, but I feel it best to mention it here as well so everyone can at least see the idea and talk about it. Basically, I was thinking we should have two separate types of "staff". You'll have the Senior Staff Members, people like Grace and BG and Zyre, etc. They'll do what they currently do: come up with plots and generally run the board. Helping the Senior Staff Members out, however, are the regular Staff Members or, if you like, the Moderators. They'll help out with mundane tasks like sending out PMs, taking care of archiving, making sure special RP threads are handled correctly (like AU threads or large threads that could possibly die without proper care). They could also help with anything else that might be needed. They're basically Staff, except they don't necessarily help with plotting, nor do they have admin privileges.

There could be more Mods than Senior Staff which allows for more regular members to always have someone they can go to if they have a problem with anyone or anything. It would help the current Staff team from being too bogged down with lots of clutter.

If this does happen, I'd suggest that a Moderator application be made for people to fill out. You can apply/resign from the job whenever necessary, since everyone knows RL takes precedence and all that. But yeah, people wouldn't be hand picked or anything like that. Anyone has the right to apply, but if your app isn't that great, you won't get picked.

Anyways, just some ideas I had. Gonna link this in the CBox to see what people think! :)

Gimme a couple of days to think on this and I'll see what I come up with.

I would like to second Req's second point (to an extent) I feel there needs to more to spend money on. For example, I've been accruing it and now have plenty across my accounts but nothing I fancy spending it on. Quite what these things could be, I don't know. Gimme a few days and I'll come straight back.

Got another idea. This one's about the bio pics/application templates.

So yeah, just a quick thing, why not use all of the templates people make? Have one official template, but if people want to, they can go and ask for the code to the other templates and use those.

What do the app mods think? You guys would be the ones dealing with the apps the most and I figure that by choosing a single template as the "official" one, you can still declare a winner of the contest, and yet you can also have some variety when dealing with new apps.

So people don't abuse the bio templates, you could keep the codes in the staff forum or just in a section of the site that new people can't get to.

How does that sound?

Okay, this is something that has been bugging me after I found out about it. I forgot, and then I remembered. You can't buy a power upgrade, but you can buy a new character, that kind of seems weird, you know.

Of course I wouldn't want such a thing to be a cheap thing, maybe it should cost the same as a new character who knows.

And this leads me onto something else. The powers; why can't we have third powers like secondary powers, just a third.

I am not saying you should be able to do that immediately to begin with, maybe it would be a privilege you could buy, or get when you upgrade your existing powers. It just seems odd to me, that, if you want to upgrade your power then you would have to find some weird way to mix the secondary and main power instead of keeping them separated, if you want to keep them that is. I don't find it logically that someone would lose their power, suddenly to gain something else, i'd be like someone having telekinesis and telepathy, only to lose telepathy in favor of possession. (if they can't find a way to mix the secondary with the main, of course)

But that's just a personal peeve of mine.

I was going to make a similar suggestion in that I feel we should be able to purchase early advancement of powers. I don't, however, agree that we should be able to purchase third powers. Most powers (primary or secondary) encompass enough to be able to play out. Power advancement should be just that, unlocking an 'upgrade' of sorts to the abilities already there.

In the event that the individual has only a primary power, I think they could be able to purchase a secondary, provided it fits.

Thanks guys, I'll bring these up to the staff :)

Though, while I'm here, I'll offer my two cents on the subject. Always cool to see how the staff thinks, eh?

I think the idea right now behind upgrading your power is that it is something that should take a definite, prolonged amount of character development. It isn't something that should be quick or something that you can buy with relative ease.

Maybe I'll suggest lowering the upgrade post requirement from 300 to 250 or 200.

Also, I don't agree with three powers at all. I think it's far, far too much. Way too much in fact. The thing I like about this RPG is that the characters are relatively balanced. We don't have people like Superman with ten different powers. Personally, I think two is the perfect balance.

I agree that power "upgrading" should definitely go hand in hand with a good deal of character development, simply because it's important that it makes sense character-wise. That being said, some people take less than three-hundred posts to move a character past a certain developmental point, so in that case, why not put it on middle ground?

Right now, you need 300 posts to get your character's power upgraded. I think we should keep that, but perhaps also adding the option that, once a certain post count threshold has been reached--let's say 150 for the sake of this discussion--and with the contingency that the staff would obviously have to approve the upgrade and make sure everything's in order, a player would have the chance to then buy the upgrade for the current value of a new character if they feel that waiting for post 300 is unnecessary or otherwise detrimental to their characters.

I think that could be a nice compromise that would ensure that there will be a decent amount of development that the character will have to undergo before advancing in terms of power, and would make the change less random and sudden while still giving the player part of the prerogative of deciding when it should happen.

Yeah, totally agree, as I said it was a peeve of mine, and definitely a bad idea to have superman going around. Just thought, hey if someone can't make it into the same power, (which definitely is a hard thing at times) But it still connects perfectly. Then it could be one of those things you could get, after the power upgrade, because what do we actually have to strive for after the power upgrade at 300? Unless of course you are gonna allow people to upgrade powers again at a later post count (which I definitely wouldn't mind either)

And this might just be me, because I like having a carrot hanging from a stick in front of me, it motivates me.

I was also wondering whether it might be beneficial to have all of the staff slightly reassess and redefine their roles in terms of what they entail and the responsibilities of each so that we might have a list of these descriptions.

That way, when people, new members or old, have a specific issue/request, they can just flick onto the staff page and it'll tell them exactly who to contact. This isn't a big issue, just something that might help with user-friendliness.
