** THE RULES ** ALL OF THEM -- MUST READ « Thread Started on Oct 21, 2009, 2:57pm »
///// THE RULES
[1] Respect for Others~ Respect everyone on the site, whether they are a guest, a new member, established member or staff member. Treat people how you expect to be treated. If you think someone has disrespected you then please, either talk to them in private whether it be in private chat or PMs or inform a member of staff. We don’t wish to have DRAMA on the board, and by reading this rule, you will know what to do and how to deal with it.
[2] Quality, not Quantity~ The minimum we ask for is 100 words. No one liners. Also please make sure it is of a good quality, the way to do this is to spell check it before posting.
Posts will only be counted for the following sections: all roleplaying threads, registration, accepted, relationships, journals, sign-ups, plots, sub-plots, contests, fan fics, and the awards shows.
[3] The Away Sheet~ We understand that real life can sometimes get in the way of RPing, so please, if you think you are going to be away for longer than a week, please post in HERE
[4] Images~ We ask that you please host your own pictures and do not link them from another website. For hosting you can use photobucket, tinypic, or a variety of other websites. Also, make sure that these images do not stretch the page. If they do stretch the page, you can always use picresize.com to resize them if you do not have a photoediting program.
NOTE - We ask that any celebs you use are real people. No anime allowed. Also, we ask that you don't use any Heroes canon character actors (so no using Zachary Quinto as a celeb claim, etc.). If it's a person who played a minor role, then we may allow it. Lastly, we ask that you please put a pic of the celeb you are using either in a signature or an avatar.
[5] The Karma System~ There is a karma system in place that allows you to [fame/exalt] or [infamy/smite] other players. Please do not abuse the system.
[6] Godmoding~ Godmoding is unacceptable! This is basically making your character godlike, or controlling other characters without their consent. More can be read about it HERE
[7] Continuity & Placement~ It is possible for your character to be in more than one thread at once. But please, take into account what your character knows when starting a new thread. If they are hurt in one thread, the next thread should have them injured/recovering from it.
[8] Overall Activity~ Post as often as you can. If you cant let us know in the away thread. If you don’t post in character for more than 30 days, we will deactivate you. Your character will be moved to the inactive forum and if you come back you can rejoin. If you haven't logged in for 3 months, your celeb claim will be up for grabs, and your screen name will be deleted. We move all applications to the staff character bio archive, so don't fret if you come back and notice your bio is gone; odds are we still have it.
Posting IC for your character means actual RP posts. With that in mind, these are the categories that are considered IC:
- New York - Las Vegas - California - Rest of America - Places of Interest
These categories are NOT IC and DO NOT count towards your overall activity:
- Character Extras - Out of Character
[9] General Realism and Theme~ Use your creativity, but also be realistic. Remember that Heroes is about ordinary people with extraordinary abilities. Those people have jobs, real problems, hobbies, etc. Your roleplay should not revolve entirely around your ability.
[10] The Rule~ If you wish to have your application approved, then you'll need to remember what to say when asked if you have read the rules: SPLARKIN
[11] The Separation~ You are not your character, don’t be offended if someone doesn’t like your character, because, well, it isn’t you. Also, please try and remember that whilst you know what is going on board wide your character will not. More can be read about it HERE
[12] Post Counts~ Lastly, regarding post counts:
After 75 posts on your first character, you will be eligible to create a second character. After 75 posts on your second character, you will be able to make your third character, and so on.
Alternatively, if you have not reached the 75 required post count for a new character, you can buy a character for $2000 this is classed as an early advancement. There is a five character limit. This rule also applies after you have met your limit. If you have five characters and wish to make a 6th, regardless of whether you have 75 posts on your latest created character you will have to pay $2000.
After you have gotten 300 posts on the character whose power you'd like to edit, you may choose to edit their power, such as by adding a secondary ability, or by modifying what powers they already have by expanding on them. This does not mean you can completely change their power (i.e. they can't go from having "Flying" as an ability to "Terrakinesis." The alteration being made has to relate to the original ability).
[13] Bio Alterations~ If you plan on making large changes to your character's bio (let's face it; characters do evolve), please bring it to the attention of a staff member. Large changes include, but are not limited to:
the updating of a character's history; the updating of a large portion of the character's personality (e.g. changing them from good to evil); removing a significant flaw or weakness; adding a significant strength or skill.
Unlike power revisions which require 300 posts, bio revisions may be made at any time, albeit with staff approval.
NEW! (17 Feb. 2011) [14] Labeling Threads~ When labeling a thread, it is crucial that you are very informative. By this we mean;
If the thread is OPEN for anyone to enter then you label the thread as OPEN.
If the thread has been made for someone specific that you have already planned to do the thread in question with, can you please label the thread with the thread name and then the persons name next to it so that it is clear the thread is for a particular person and if anyone wishes to join they MUST ask you first.
If the thread is restricted to Sign ups or Invite only. Please can you label the thread SIGN UPS ONLY or INVITE. Please do not label the thread Closed, because by doing so confuses the person doing archiving.
If the thread is Finished for whatever reason, please label it either of the following;
DEAD or INACTIVE = Inactive, this can be for several reasons but the most commong being lack of user activity or lack of insipiration to continue the thread.
FINISHED or CLOSED = The thread has been closed because what was set out to be achieved in the thread has been so and now the thread is ready to archive.
Please note that any finished threads, must be recorded HERE
** CHARACTER BIO RULES ** -- MUST READ « Reply #1 on Feb 12, 2010, 12:10am »
///// BIO RULES
1) No Mary Sues!!~ The staff is knowledgeable about the stuff that makes a Sue, now, a Sue-ish trait or two may be forgiveable, but the more Sue traits in your application, the more you're going to have to work on, so it is in your interests to be familiar with Sues. To learn more about Sues, please read HERE
2) Eclipse' Relationship to Canon~ Absolutely no canon/relative of canon/coworker of canon characters. All show canon characters are treated as NPC's and are only usable by Admin, very rarely.
3) Keep to the Theme!~ Your character should fit the world of Heroes. Powers are not the source of supernatural/magic means, nor result of alien experimentations, or obtained through high-tech cybernetics. The abilities are genetic and evolutionary and are triggered by adrenal stimulation and the 'fight or flight' mechanism and are scientific in nature.
4) Character Ability~ You may possess one/two abilities, two is the maximum. However, your secondary ability must meet two standards. It must be related to your first. It also should not be more powerful than your first.
We have a abilities that are capped, some which cant be used, and some only at admin discretion. Please check our power list for details
You may also use activating evolution for ideas, but not all of the powers listed there will be allowed here. Please do not cut and paste a description from the site. Describe how the ability works in your own words.
5) New Manifests~ As a new player, your first character must be new manifest. Basically you must manifest in game or a week or two before joining the game.
6) Originality & Realism~ Please try to be original and realistic. In terms of names, try not to use a name already in use. This will save on confusion. You can find a many to choose from on a site like Babynames.com or similar sites. The name should fit your character's age, ethnicity, etc. The same standards are the same for history, keep it realistic, and don't fall into the pitfalls of clichés or sue-isms.
7) Role Play Sample~ We ask that the sample RP be of the person you are applying for. This will give us as well as yourself, a feel for the character.
8) Cooperation with Staff~ Once you have posted your application, you will receive a reply from an application moderator. Please be patient.
The reply to your application may ask for changes before you can be accepted. Be cooperative with the staff, as we are only trying to help you iron out issues. We mean no offence or harm.
9) Approval Process~ Once you're approved, you will be notified, via PM. Your application will be moved and staff will make changes to your screenname. Also take into account, that a link to the app will be put in your signature, so leave space for it.
10) Locking Bios~ Upon approval, your application will be locked. If you wish to make changes, PM those changes as updated application sections to a staff member. If they approve, they will make the changes.
11) Character Limits~ Please create a new screen name for each character.
You may have up to four special characters and one civilian character. Every time you wish to create another character, the one previous MUST HAVE 75 posts at least. You may buy more characters, for more please go HERE
12) Bio Archives~ If you have not updated your bio in 30 days (i.e. it is a work-in-progress, or the staff has asked you to make changes which you have not made to your bio in the Registration Forum), your character's bio will be archived in the Character Bio Archive within the Staff Board. Should you choose to return to Eclipse after your 30 day deadline is up, we can always move the bio from the Archive back to the appropriate section for you to work on. We archive inactive characters and inactivate members after 30 days of no-posting to cut down on board clutter, so please keep that in mind.
13) Power Alterations~ After you have gotten 300 posts on the character whose power you'd like to edit, you may choose to edit their power, such as by adding a secondary ability, or by modifying what powers they already have by expanding on them. This does not mean you can completely change their power (i.e. they can't go from having "Flying" as an ability to "Terrakinesis." The alteration being made has to relate to the original ability).
14) Factions~ The only available factions when starting out are Villain, Hero, or Neutral. If you wish to have your character join the Rogue Society, the Watchers P.I., or the Company, you will need to contact their respective representatives and apply to join. Bear in mind that these factions will require you to do certain things in order to join, and your character might not necessarily make it in on the first try. You may elect to join a faction at any point, but again, you will have to contact the faction leader for an application and an audition.
NOTE When a character dies, their money/karma are non-transferable to other characters. You may pool money between characters in some applications of the money system. Karma is completely non-transferable.
** RULES FOR RETURNING MEMBERS ** -- MUST READ « Reply #2 on Feb 12, 2010, 12:11am »
///// RETURNING MEMBER
RULES
Rules for returning members that gave previous notice of returning:
[1A] If the returning member officially stated about their departure in the Away thread. They will be able to regain activation of all their characters with full post count and full money, but will have to apply with the characters in the registration board.
Rules for returning members that gave no previous notice of returning:
[1B] If the returning member left without giving any kind of notice, upon returning, they will only be able to regain one of their characters at that time. Or create a new character if they wish to do so. Whether returning as an old character or creating a new one, you will have to reapply. In the same vein, If a character had a house or apartment, it will be de-activated at the same time as a character, the returning member will have to re-buy it.
[1C] The rules for a returning member for getting back their other characters (in case of multiple characters) will be the same as the rules for new members getting new characters. That is, until the first reactivated character reaches a post count of 75, this 75 post count is upon arrival.
[1D] Reactivated character's post count and money will be zero upon reactivation, if/when they reach a 75 post count, they'll be restored their original post count and money.
[1E] Upon reactivation, and according to the "three strikes" rule of the site, the member will be marked one strike if they left the site without giving proper notice.
Note: When deactivated the post count and money will be brought to zero, there is a log in staff room about it for reference. Unless the screenname was deleted in which case we do not have the record of the money/post count.
** CHATBOX RULES ** -- MUST READ « Reply #3 on Feb 12, 2010, 12:13am »
Due to the fact that it's pretty clear that no one reads the rules, here are the rules for the Cbox, yet again. I behoove you all to read them, because my patience is wearing very thin at this point.
///// CBOX RULES
The cbox is a place for people to talk. People can talk about stuff to do outside the RPG. Like favourite TV programmes, how their day was etc. People can talk about stuff to do IN the RPG. Such as asking for ideas on powers, threading together, etc. If you want to talk in secret about plotting or such then you can Private Chat someone (by clicking their name, you get your own 'Private Room') or just PM them.
But there is a line. You should never bash someone’s beliefs, or sexual orientation. Let’s not get into arguments about it. Be civil. People have differing opinions. Simple. In the cbox, things can be taken out of context, after all. You may be saying something as a joke, but some people may take it out of context and get offended.
If you have a problem with someone then just PM them about it, or Private Chat them. Or talk to an admin about it. We're here to run the board. Which means helping people resolve their differences.
The admins have the power to ban people. If we ask you to stop arguing, then please do it. If not, action will be taken. You have been warned. If anyone finds that there is out-of-line conduct unfolding in the Cbox, you may flag the user by clicking the little white flag icon on the upper right hand side of their message. Please only use this if the person is truly breaking the rules.
NOTE: No impersonating other members. If staff find out then you will earn a strike. NO SPAMMING of videos, pictures, your threads etc. Spamming also includes the advertising of other RPs. If you wish to tell someone about another RP you're in, do it via a private message. Messages posting links to other RPs will be deleted.
In addition, sock puppet accounts are not tolerated. Admins can keep track of IP addresses on the cbox. Don't use sock accounts. Usage of a sock account will result in an automatic temporary (or permanent, depending on the number of previous cbox infractions) ban.
** New Rule ** (added 23 Apr., 2010): Please keep explicit talk to a minimum on the cbox. This means discussion of sex, sexual acts, and so on. If staff catches it getting out of hand, we'll be handing out three day cbox bans and a strike. Seriously. Do not test our patience.
///CBOX RULES ADDENDUM
1) If people are arguing in Cbox, stay out of it. It’s between whoever it’s between. You may think by interfering that you’re helping but you’re not, taking sides doesn’t help anyone. You can however advise people to take it into private messages and if they don’t then you report it to staff with logs included (none of this ‘he said’ ‘she said’ bs..we need to see what exactly has gone on) I don’t want anyone being or feeling ganged up on in Cbox. I do not want to see nor hear about this happening anymore, if the arguing doesn’t involve you personally then just butt out of it.
If a staff member is online but perhaps not in Cbox, then you must inform them so they can deal with it.
IF STAFF GETS INVOLVED AND ASKS THOSE ARGUING TO STOP AND YOU FAIL TO DO SO, YOU WILL BE GIVEN A STRIKE INSTANTLY (This is not up for discussion, it is what it is, if you’re prepared to break the rules then you have to face the consequences)
ANYONE SEEN OR REPORTED FOR INTERFERING WILL GET A STRIKE (Again we want logs, because were not prepared or in any way inclined to take sides without being given evidence regarding the situation. If you don’t send logs we’ll just dismiss it because there’s no fair way of solving the problem)
2) If there are people fighting in Cbox and they continue to do so and do not take it to private messages, then it’s your job to report it and with logs again for the same reasons above. Once it’s reported we can deal with it if we’re not there. If a Staff member is online at the time but not on Cbox, someone must alert them of what is going on so that we can deal with it.
ANYONE SEEN OR REPORTED FOR FIGHTING IN CBOX AND FAILING TO TAKE IT TO POPS WILL BE GIVEN A STRIKE.
IF YOU ARE FIGHTING BUT TAKE IT TO PRIVATE MSGS YOU WILL GET A WARNING. YOU WILL BE GIVEN ONE WARNING; IF YOU DO IT AGAIN YOU WILL GET A STRIKE.
(Cbox is for everyone, we won’t tolerate this behaviour as you’re dragging everyone else into the fight and it’s unnecessary)
3) If you have a complaint, you need to contact staff. I don’t want to see people bitching in Cbox about he did this and she did that, because again you’re disrupting everyone else and dragging everyone else into the situation. Don’t do it, contact staff with your problem (logs/evidence included, again see reasons above) and we will deal with it. You do not need to drag everyone else into any problems you have. We are here to help you, so please use the help on hand to you. If you don’t tell us what is going on, how are we to know?
If there’s a problem in Cbox with another person, or in a thread..maybe godmodding w/e..let us know and we will deal with it. We’ve dealt with these issues before; we’ve approached them in the correct manner and gone to those included directly and kept it out of view of everyone else because again, there is no need for anyone else to be involved.

** RULE-BREAKING ** -- MUST READ « Reply #4 on Feb 12, 2010, 12:14am »
///// TROUBLE!
It is every player's responsibility to read and understand the rules and regulations of the site. There is no excuse. If you are found breaking our rules, you will be disciplined accordingly. If you feel unsure about any of our rules, PM a staff member, or ask one in cbox, and we will be happy to explain things to you.
If you are found in violation of our rules, you will be informed by staff, and if you are asked to stop, then stop. If warnings are not heeded, further action will be taken. These actions may include suspension / banning from cbox or the website if these actions persist.
Please be considerate of the site, staff, and players, and comply with any requests to mind our regulations, so that the experience can remain enjoyable for everyone.
NOTE – We operate a ‘three strike’ system.
List of reasons that will get any member a strike:
Returning members that didn't gave previous notice. Constant pic spamming (three or four times can be considered constant) Constant site advertising (three or four times is constant) Continuing a fight after a staff member told them to stop. Profanity and/or racism against a member. If someone complains about god modding and the complain is valid.
The list may be increasing in the future, and once a member hits three strikes, the banning committee will get together and determine the sanction. Though if you get 3 strikes it will most commonly mean a ban. However the duration of the ban will be determined by staff according to the violations. From 3 days to undetermined ban.
NEW CHARACTER CREATION RULES « Reply #5 on Jun 11, 2011, 11:45am »
NEW CHARACTER CREATION RULES
NEW! (06 Feb. 2011) 1) Creating New Characters After Deactivating Others~ This rule applies to those who are creating a new character after deactivating a previous character. Now we understand that sometimes people simply lose their inspiration when it comes to writing for certain characters. We all have that happen from time to time, but the majority of us get over it. The point is, if you make a character then you should be aware of if you are or are not capable of playing them.
The issue is that some of these characters are in factions that require having them around. The faction leaders incorporate your characters into their plots. They work hard, so for them to see that said characters have been deactivated is extremely annoying and not only that but it effects everyone else in the faction too.
If you can’t play a certain type of character, then don’t make them, it’s as simple as that.
If you have deactivated a character due to ‘lack of muse’ then you will not be able to make a new character to replace them for a ONE MONTH.
(NEW! 07 Feb. 2011) In addition, even if you have the necessary money to pay for a new character and you wind up paying for it, you will not be able to reapply for a month. Paying for a character in advance does not exclude you from this rule. Please keep that in mind.
If you deactivate your first (and only) character and want to submit a new one, we suggest you consider building your post count up so that you can then make a second and deactivate the one in question after doing so.
This rule also applies to you if you have more than one character and can’t keep up. If you can’t keep up with the characters you already have, then why deactivate them to make more?
NOTE This rule does not apply if your character is killed in game. If your character is killed in the RP for plot purposes or whatever, then this rule doesn’t apply. But, merely deactivating a character because you just don’t know what to do is a waste of not only our time but a waste of yours too. The reviewers spend a lot of time reading these apps and accepting people and you make the effort in writing them out just to deactivate them a week or so on after? It’s pointless.
If you are struggling for muse then there are people here who can help you with ideas for your character. If you want to deactivate characters, then by all means that is down to you but at the end of the day by doing so, it doesn’t just affect you. It’s always best to try everything, instead of just giving up.
Addendum (added 11 June 2011)
Once you've reached the regular five-character limit, if you want to make a character past that, you can choose to either:
1) Go through a waiting period of 45 days after the approval of your last character to submit a new one; or
2) You can submit it right away, but the character payment price will be doubled--in other words, you'll be forced to pay $4000 instead of the regular $2000.
Addendum (added 13 June 2011)
STAFF DISCRETION
We have the right to REFUSE to accept characters. This can be done for a number of reasons, but fore mostly when concerning MULTIPLE characters submitted by the same player, on the basis that STAFF do not believe that the submitting player would able to maintain the required activity and commitment it takes to play multiple characters.
This can be backed up by many reasons including:
The characters they have already got not having a significant amount of posts during the time the character has been active in the game. The player being frequently either behind in there threads, holding up threads or having there threads archived continuously due to lack of activity. Not using the characters they already have enough in the game. How many character the player has had inactivated either by choice or lack of activity since participating in the game.
